Hello all,
I am trying to fit a gopro to the rollcage of my car, but not having much luck!!

I am using the rollbar accessory from Gopro but it doesn't orientate the camera correctly - with the accessories I have the camera (when mounted to horizontal bar) faces either left or right!! Not particularly useful. Now am I being an absolute cretin or is/are there different accesories required/available to get the camera forward facing? Are there any other recommended/tested ways or mounts to attach the go-pro to the roll cage.I did see one that looked great on an merican website but they do not ship to UK.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Which bar on the cage are you attaching it to and how many of the 90 degree pieces are you using? I'd hazard a guess that either using 1 more or 1 less would resolve your problem.

I am attaching it to the rear, upper horizontal bar - I only have 2 of the pieces (as per pic in link above) neither of which rotate the camera through 90 deg. That may well be the issue - can these pieces be bought individually? Are there any other roll cage mounts available? I can see images of a few when googling but can't seem to find anyone actually selling them?

You may need a few more 'connectors' that give a 90 deg correction to get it straight. I hang mine from the roof roll bar but on multiple connectors to lower it a bit and get it facing forward. The software can flip the image right way up. Think I used a combination of handle bar mount, Roll cage mount and some bits that cam in the box.

Each bit does 90 deg, so both is 180 deg ie same way round.

Think i need to get extra 'bits'! My 'bits' just lower it but do not turn it 90 deg.

I had one of the gopro mounts and got fed up with its flimsy awkward construction (never mind price!!), so when it predictably broke I cobbled together this with an exhaust clamp, some foam padding, a sticky go pro mount and a piece of firm plastic..total cost about £5 and you can stick the gopro mount on at any angle you want:

As mentioned using it in the upside down setting will be the best bet and using more connectors to allow it to pivot on another axis, I think this may be the cheapest option for more 'bits':

Or search gopro 3 way pivot arm on eBay and get them from Hong Kong for about £3 (they just take about a month to arrive)

GoPro don't sell connectors individually so they can pull more money out of you.

Thanks for input guys - think I will order the extra bits that rotate the camera and see how I get on - will also try to create something stronger and more permanent.

I have a Manfrotto (ooh! Err!) roll bar mount, like this one;

You can either get a standard tripod mount for the GoPro (£2.99 on eBay from China, came in about a week) and use that or do what I did, which was to stick one of the standard flat mounting pads onto one of the flat surfaces on the Manfrotto.

Buy a roll of this:

http://www.flints.co.uk/acatalog/Black___White_Tac...

Mould into a pad and stick on rollbar. Place camera case with basic mount into pad and cable tie in place wherever you want it.

We have tried a lot of basic mounts and even had one special made to go round rollbar of our Dallara F3. This method works better than any of them and was cheapest.

If you're interested, follow this link, and look at the bottom left pic of the three cars. Ours is the red 21 and you can clearly see the camera, which is mounted this way, right on top of the roll bar.

You'd have to ask the scrutineer, all I know is I let a mate who was racing borrow it and he returned it because the scrutineer wasn't happy. It is strange because if its properly attached you could lift the car with it....my only guesses was that either he hadn't tightened it enough and it moved when the scrutineer wiggled it, or they didn't like the pointy nature of the handle (I had this debate at a trackday once) or just had an issue that it's not completely enclosing the rollbar.

Thanks. I must admit, I don't like the pointy nature of the handle, and usually try and position it so the point is facing away from me. I keep meaning to change the bolt for something less ... pointy.
