Club racer dash finish
Discussion
Would this amount of exposed aluminium be a real problem from a reflected sun perspective, even if grained with a sander?
Was wondering if there are other abrasive finishing techniques that would substantially reduce the glare, or is good old mat black the only answer?
The car had a very large rear window so guess the sun could be an issue when behind.

Black vinyl could still reflect unless it is a matted type. For racing I would always go for a lightweight black felt or suede on a large area like yours
Alloy, even if it is dulled down will be a nightmare, even more so on a dash area such as your photo shows.
Sir, with your impressive profile credentials I will heed your advice, now im thinking I will just spray it mat black, or wrinkle finish black, if such a finish is still available in a can.Alloy, even if it is dulled down will be a nightmare, even more so on a dash area such as your photo shows.
Eric,
yes, crinkle finish spray is still easily available but it will not be easy to spray a dashboard of your size and it would have to be removed to do it.
Didn,t know I had credentials as I thought they had been surgically removed years ago!!!
Dash on the 917 is covered in a black felt because of extreme windscreen angle and potential glare problems and the 40 which is more upright and angular is sprayed in a satin/matt black.
I would experiment with a small area first to find out what looks and works best for you. Don,t forget cleaning and maintainence ease as well.
If you do decide to spray it matt black I would advise you to clean surface really well and give it an ETCH prime first.
