So as I approach my first season of racing, here comes the next (of many) stupid question:

Do you usually have access to electricity in the paddocks? I'll be doing Future Classics, which goes to Snetterton, Silverstone, Brands etc etc. I do have a generator, but it's quite big so I'd rather avoid taking it if an extension lead would do.

Unfortunately not all of them
Snett No
Donington No
Oulton No
C Combe Not that I remember

The rest do...make / buy a splitter cable so that you can join in to other's cables...There are not enough power points for all.

Shame that MSV circuits have come on so much recently...but still no power at two of their most popular circuits.

Exactly. From memory there are little huts that have plenty of 16A blue sockets. Haven't been there for a few years. Will find out in August!

Good to hear Oulton does.

With the amount of large events that run at Snetterton, I'm surprised that no power has been run out in the paddock there.

Though I bet if they install sockets everywhere, the fees will go up accordingly. There's no such thing as a free lunch!

For all the events I work at (BTCC support) they always have to bring in extra diesel generators to power the support paddocks as they generally dont have enough 'plumped-in' sockets. The main issue we have is the lack of water supply, especially at Croft.

So I might be better off taking a gennie with me, by the sound of things.

Costs me £20-30 in fuel to run my generator for a weekend, I would far rather pay that amount for a hook up to the mains. Surely this would be at least cost neutral to the circuit owners?

What type of Genny do you have Simon and how much can you run from it?

2.5kva runs the compressor, tea urn, lights, fridge, tv, chargers for PC phones etc. It'll run an angle grinder or a welder on their own

If you park along the back of the hospitality suites...The rest of the paddock is a wasteland

dont suggest that to them, or they'll bung 20-30 quid a day on the race fees, and still not have enough electricity points to go round..
