A follow on from my tyre thread. My type r runs 205 45 17 's which limits tyre choice, especially now AD08s are not available.
So was going to switch to 215 40 17's on the same rims. A lot of non race forums seem to say this is ok but wanted any thoughts or experience before I go out and buy a set of rubber. Thanks in advance.

Should be fine so long as the regs permit it.

It will give you close to the same rolling radius so won't affect your gearing, and having a lesser sidewall will reduce roll a bit.

I'm not sure it works like that Trev. The sidewall will be the same ish height, but the tyre less "stretched", so I'd think the wheel will "push" further through the tyre as the corner starts. How noticable that'll be I wouldn't know.

Or I could be wrong, but the sidewall isn't "lesser" really.

Yes I came once last year around september time. I was in my white Cayman S and my mate brought his E30 M3.

I think we had a chat together. smile

I think you're right. I'd overlooked the increase in width which will offset the lower profile. smile
