I've got an Ibiza Cupra 1.8t, running around 220 bhp. How do I pick a race series if I were to enter this car into one?

I'm mainly after a fun series and am a novice.

Apologies for the broad question I've just got no idea where to start!

This isn't what you want to hear but if budget is a consideration you are much better off buying a ready made race car than trying to turn a road car into one. In order to be competitive you will replace everything and it will cost tens of thousands.

Look at 750 motor club, The golf GTI championships, the various MX-5 championships and if budget will stretch towards a 10k+ car, look at Caterhams.

That's great, thanks. Could stretch to a Caterham so will look into that further.

I've spent the last 3.5 seasons doing this. I had a great time and got all my money back on the car at the end. I started as a novice but even on a shoestring budget managed to win a couple of races last year.

For entry level racing, there are quite a few options here:

I'm starting in the Production Class in the Tricolore Trophy.

+1 for track attack if you want to race competitively and cheaply. There are 40 registered for the MK1 MR2 series this year.

With the benefit of years of experience in single seaters I' buy a kart and race that. More fun and you'll learn more... but I guess that's not what you're after

+ another one for Track Attack. Just starting my 5th season in my MR2 Mk1. I usually race in the Nippon and MR2 series so get 2 quali and four races per weekend; they're both double headers. I have a rebuilt engine in the car so have a couple of grand in it and about a hundred weight of filler but it's cheap as chips racing and I can't imagine more expensive racing being more fun. We're at Rockingham on 5/6 April. Come and see.

or MSV Trackday Trophy which is full of novice racers with a degree of trackday driving experience.

I'm in the same boat sort of. I want to get into motorsport too. From my readings I'd probably say MSV, 750, or the stuff the others have suggested smile
