It's renewal time for my old mk1 Escort race car and wondering if anyone can recommend a company that includes road cover, paddock and trailering eventualities associated with owning such a car. Who do you guys use?
Thanks

If you mean transportation to circuits rather than actual road use then I found both Ryan or Reis to be similar value (for basically all risks when the cars not under its own power). I went with Reis after Competition Car Insurance weren't able to renew again this year. biggrin

REIS principally because even if one trailers the car the free 4x track days covered costs me substantially less then if I didn't have the car insured with them and had to pay for 4x lots of track day insurance.

I found some insurers came up with hilarious excuses for not offering road cover for a race car:

"No rear seat"
"No seats" (except the driver's)
"No internal trim"
"Not original seat belts"
Even after I listed all the performance mods, they focus on the trivial.

What excuses have you been given?

Flux want £ 350 which is more than REIS who I am with at the moment. That's third party F&T and seems excessive compared to what normal classic car insurance is for V8 runabouts that do 5,000 miles.
At least historic road fund is now free this year. Another thing is the salvage of the remains if the worst happens and the car is cat A or B. It ends up in a grotty breaker yard after all the tlc that has been lavished on it. Organised theft is my main concern though.

Not such a concern for me as my car is a tatty old heap.
£350 doesn't sound too bad though - not compared to race fees and tyres etc etc.

I use competition car insurance - was £270ish for my MX5 race car which is road-legal (covered for 5,000 road miles) includes European cover. fully comp, agreed value.

Try Jelf as well, they are fairly new to motorsport insurance and should be quite competitive http://www.insurance-partnership.com/schemes/servi...
