Round grill Mini Cooper ID and HTP
Discussion
Looking at round grill Coopers for classic saloon car racing. Going to look at a particular car that supposedly has racing history back to the sixties.
Thing is racing history in period ads to value but if its been racing on and off for all those years you would think the thing would have been reshelled which in theory has a downward effect on price. There are some lovely Cooper 'S'es out there with works racing history back to day one that fetch top money but in reality these cars must have been re shelled. What is the general market view on cars that have homologation papers back to period but have been reshelled with say just a mini shell from the right period???

very very few of the htp appendix K cars i've seen have much left thats original. Owen's grantura being a rare example of a car with original body and chassis ( still bonded)
many appendix cars are original only as far as the chassis plate....
the history seems to have more effect on the value that the tracability of all the parts. as long as everything is correct, i.e. it hasnt been reshelled with a 1990s shell.
as long as everything on the car is correct for the period and the fia papers have plenty of time to run I wouldnt worry too much. ( my experience is with racing rather than rallying and now you have to renew the papers every few years and pay some fia tax !!!)
It might also be worth talking to an htp scruit to see if there are any changes in what is allowed as period correct, as this does seem to change with the wind direction...

How competitive and legal would you like to be?
Here's my guide.
Period history. Slow but lots of invites.
New build with papers. Potentially quicker, fewer guest meetings.
Competive Period history. Run what you like, because no one eligibility tests a "works" car or
turns down an entry.
Goodwood Special. Hybrid of the options above.
Andy Hack's car was for sale recently. Very quick.
