When testing recently in my old HJC one (which I thought was up to the job), the visor kept slamming shut on me in the straights and then misting up.

Can anyone recommend a good helmet with a solid visor that will not snap shut as I need it to be well ventilated (I'm a heavy breather!) and I always leave a thumbs width gap at the bottom.

Looking to spend no more than £300

i have an omp integrale formula which was around £300 when i bought it. its a great fit and very comfy.

the bell hemlets always seem to have solid visor mecahnisms but i dont know if there are any under £00.

have a look at the IMPACT range as they seemto be good value...

I bought a Bell sport 4 from demon tweeks at the Autosport shop, not really used it yet but does seam good quality its £310+VAT so slightly over budget.

I also had the hans posts added as if i'd bought one without hans the MSA would go and make them a requirement for racing.

I use an Arai GP5k which I use a peak on in the M3 and a visor in the Caterham and it's perfect.

As with bike lids though, everyone has a different size and shape head, so what fits one person may be really uncomfortable on another. For that reason you need to try a few on and get the best one you can afford that fits perfectly.

Don't forget to try on with a balaclava on though, as that's what you'll have to wear when racing.

The most important thing is to get a lid that fits you properly and is the right shape for your head!. Different manufacturers have different views on what the "average shape" head is and so the most expensive helmet is not necessarily the best one. I had a mid range Bell but it turned out to be very uncomfortable as it was tight against my forehead. I ended up buying a far cheaper Sparco because of all the helmets i tried on this one fitted the best and was the most comfortable. Try them on. Don't buy mail order.

I use an arai gp5 and its brilliant, but as others have on here have said buy one that fits the best. to do this you need to try them on.

I have a GP5, and an OMP Integrale, but I have been impressed by the hats made by Impact - available from the 'States, and they look good value. Lots of drag racers, NASCAR, and IRL drivers use them, among others.

I would recommend that you go and having a "fitting", rather than doing it mail order.

with the helmets you get what you pay for arai gp5 are now just a tad over £1000 but your paying for the best quality, the best budget version would be an omp grand prix, its a new helmet looks similar to the gp5 and from what ive heard fits rather similarly aswell http://www.ompracing.it/detail.html?productcode=SC... i think its around half the price so slightly over budget but a great SA2005 Snell helmet
