Does anyone know where I can find out the noise level of my Noble M12 GTO-3R? I am heading off on my first track day next week to Silverstone and they have a maximum rating of 98dB.

I have asked Noble but they don't know and suggested looking on PistonHeads!!

Please help!!

PS. Is there a NOBLE owners club?

Your best bet (based on what people have said), is contact the organiser and ask them to test your car at an event previous to the one you want to attend. However thats not always practical.

Have you asked in the Noble forum on here?

Thanks.

I have just ordered one of eBay, measures 60-120 dB so will post when I know. I presume they test at certain revs?

Track day is next week so hopefully it will come before then.

Hi Alan,

My GTO-3 measured 96db at 0.5m / 45 degrees @ 4500RPM as per MSA regs recently. Standard car with no mods.

Cheers

Thanks dave, that is a load of my mind (having just bought overalls and changed my car insurance to cover track days + booked in for an oil change).

You can just turn up to a tarck day and ask them to do a noise test on your car, I've done it with my bike at Brands - same principal I would have thought.

One of the problems with noise meters is that they are only accurate at the last time they were properly calibrated and different circuits will have different meters that inevitably don't read the same. I have seen cars differ on their noise readings by 3 or 4 Db between circuits.

Track day on next Tuesday at Silverstone through Gold track...

Race it - would love to but may be an idea to get a competition licence first?

Cool - enjoy. Having to go slow and do daft things they require on tracks days will wind you up after a while. Nothing like real racing.

Here is a question for you then, to race what licence do you need and does track day insurance cover race days? Also as a race I presume I should probably look at another car race that I am quite willing to get smashed up?

Racing is a whole new ball game.

The costs can be massively more and whilst it is not a given that you will damage your car you have to accept that the more competitive the championship you race in the more friendly you will become with your local paint shop...

You can get insurance for race cars but it isn't like 'normal insurance. Say your car is worth £80k, you would usually cover any damage over £20k and under £60k, ie you pay the first £20k and the last £20k. You can (i think) get all but full cover but it depends if you want to spen the cost of a new car in insurance premiums over a season.

Many drivers don't insure their cars at all, and many only insure for certain places (races). Chances are an off at Coombe is likely to end up costing more to fix than one at Silverstone!

Many thanks Dave. I was going to check but after Nationwide garages spilt oil over the engine during an oil change, I thought I would do some miles first to burn it off.

Have you tracked you Noble much?
