Hey everyone.
I am really interested in getting into some form of motor racing. I dont have a huge budget and i'm not all that fussed about what class it is etc. I just want to go and race other people.
Can anyone suggest any series I could join that isnt going to cost me huge amounts of money.

Stockhatch is probably one of the cheapest forms of circuit motorsport in real cars. There's been a fair few XR2s, 205s and Saxos built to 750mc spec with decent spares packages selling on ebay for less than a couple of grand. However the costs of entries, travelling, purchasing a trailer and towing vehicle can all add up pretty quick.

Have a look at the 750Mc in general. It's full of championships with relative budget formulas Stock Hatch. Golf GTI. MR2's. VAG championship which includes diesel cars. And for the non saloon options there's Locost. RGB. Formula4. Formula Vee. All have similar entry fee's and value for money racing.

doubt you'll have much change from 4 to 5 grand after a season racing in the majority of budget championships. This covers entry fee's, traveling and maintenance. ie ten round championship average entry fee is 200 quid, (2000) 100 quid in diesel getting to the circuit and race fuel (1000) it soon adds up
I've been sprinting for 5 years now, and this year I started properly keeping track of the costs. Excluding maintenance of the car and after 7 events and one shakedown, I've spent £2,148. That includes entry fees, TVRCC and TVRCC Speed Championship entry, MSA license fee, competition insurance, tow car costs (using the RAC pence-per-mile rate), B&B, burgers at events and sixteen thieving b
d quid for the M6 toll. It doesn't include maintenance & upgrades for the car which would skew the figures considerably since I had an enormous amount of work done at the beginning of the year which included a top end rebuild for the engine, buying and fitting a race seat and a lot of work on the brakes and suspension which brings the costs up to £7,189. I imagine by the time I've done the remaining two events, I'll be looking at somewhere in the region of £7.5K.
Using a "wet finger in the air" figure of 10 minutes actual competition time per event, that works out at ~£80/minute. Like I said, there's no such thing as cheap motorsport!

When you grow up a bit, you'll discover you have to cut the cloth to fit the circumstances.

No offence, but you will come to realise these things are nothing like as straightforward as you think. Racing my TVR would ruin it as a road car, even if I saved the "unneeded" bits. It would make more sense to sell it and buy a racer, but I don't want to sell it, and my Management isn't keen on me buying a racer as well. And going racing, although better value-for-money than sprinting, would nonetheless cost me 3 or 4 times what I spend on sprinting (and that's if I were lucky) which I cannot afford.

thats what i was getting at. That Racing is more bang for dollar. Although we all realise it costs more than racing. Sorry if i confused people. Nice tvr too btw!peter.brown said:
