I'm planning to run a full dry sump set up (ATI 4 stage direct-to-block mounted pump - http://www.drysump.com/ls1pump.htm) on an RHS-block based LS7. The ARE pump mounts on the right hand side of the block where the AC compressor is normally mounted. I found a couple of accessory drive set-ups to re-locate the AC compressor higher on the same side (Billet Specialties - http://www.billetspecialties.com/product.asp?cid=3... and Vintage Air http://www.vintageair.com/ls.asp ). I also found a bracket that appears to work with the factory set up (http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_ac.html).

Has anyone tried fitting the compressor in this position on a GTR? The location of the serpetine belt on the Billet Specialties system is supposed to be a little more compact than the stock position, but the compressor still sticks out from the front of the motor 7.625 inches. The Vintage Air system is just under 7 inches. Does anyone know the clearance available between the front of the LS block and the GTR's rear bulkhead?

Thanks, Mike.

If is sticks out forward of the engine by 7+ inches I doubt there will be room.

Also, you may want to check that there is room for the pump as the engine mount tends to interfere with the standard compressor position.

Mike I applaud your choice of the RHS block. Our friend Nils is also impressed with the RHS block but I would leave the A/C where its at and speak with ARE Dry Sumps about a left side of the motor solution for the dry sump/ I am afraid that installing the A/C ON the left side is a bit like draining the swamp. As in " when your ass deep in aligators one often asks why he wanted to drain the swamp in the first place. Lee

Hi Lee, the AC compressor still sits on the passenger (right) side of the motor, just higher up. In speaking to ARE the pump on the right side is much cleaner to plumb (the scavenge outlets on the pan are on that side) and the pump is a little more efficient (not sure why but that is what they said - perhaps because the lines are shorter). There is a picture on the ARE website of the Vintage Air set up - http://www.drysump.com/vintageair.htm The dry sump pump uses the normal serpentine drive off of the lower crank pully. According to Vintage Air the location of the serpentine belt for the other accessories is the same as a stock Corvette (which makes sense if they are using a stock style lower pully). Pretty sure it will work, but I think I prefer the billet specialties design - which sticks out another .75 inches (hence the questions about clearance).

Mike Good luck going forward. Your question confused my because my pump is on the left side of the motor looking forward and the outlets on my ARE pan are on the same side. With the custom built drysump can with Oberg filter on top built into the forward left corner the whole thing is very clean short and sets low in the car. My Altenator sets in the valley between the heads, I have a kinsler set up and the A/C sets on the lower right hand side of the motor. All and all a very clean setup. A tip fop those building the cars these details need to be sorted out from the very begining or you are going to kick yourself hard. Lee
