G50/52 removal
Discussion
Okay, to date I have never had my transaxle out of the car, but the starter ring gear has stripped on it. I have everything undone that I can see needs undoing and the transaxle wiggles and moves freely back about half an inch, but just won't go any further? It does not appear to be binding on anything in the chassis, what could I be missing here? It's mated through a KEP adpater and clutch.
Thanks,
Julian

if this is the same principle as a g50 box which I assume then you have to pull out the pinion that holds the fork, it is located on the left side a little inside the end of the bell housing (lhd driver side) of the box and fixed with a bolt that has to be removed first. then use a much longer bolt and insert it in the pinion and pull it out with the pinion.
Do you have build manual ?

As said the pivot shaft for the clutch release lever has to come out first.
It is held in place by an M6 bolt holding a pressed steel clip. Once removed there is a plastic cover which on mine always gets jammed in the shaft hole. Take a wood screw on a magnetic screw driver tip and screw it into the plastic and pull out with long nose pliers.
Get a 6" piece of M6 studding and screw it into the end of the shaft and withdraw it. Leave the studding in the shaft as you will need it again to put the shaft back.
Last note the adaptor stays on the engine not the 'box as it is trapped behind the flywheel.

Thanks guys, sounds like the clutch fork pinion is what I was missing.
I did realize the adpater would stay with the engine, but not that the clutch fork had to be released. Hopefully installing a new starter ring gear will be simple from here in and I can get her ready for the next track event 9th June.
I qualified 3rd in an SCCA event last weekend before these problems came to a head.... got beat by a Nissan GT-R and Mitsubish Evo.... yes embarrassing, I wish I had AWD too.
