registering an Ultima.

Morning gents/ladies.

I invited a friend and his wife to come up to the Stomeleigh show and the pair of them are now hooked and want to go for an Ultima. He is a complete novice when its comes to the built vehicles scene (so am i come to think of it) and his only major concern was once he has built it will he have problems registering it. From the literature i understand that all the parts are supplied from ultima and are new so the car gets a new type reg (stop me if i'm wrong OK) but he is going for the V8 with carb setup and was curious as to how DVLA register the vehicle with a carb but with a new type reg or is it straight forward.?

You can see the DVLA regulations on registering kitcars on this page where it states:
Where all the parts of a vehicle are supplied new by the manufacturer. Subject to the provision of satisfactory receipts and a Certificate of Newness these vehicles will be registered under a current registration mark.

Kit cars which been built using not more than one reconditioned component will also be registered under a current mark. This is subject to the provision of satisfactory evidence that the component has been reconditioned to an "as new" standard.

So, you use an engine which the DVLA will accept is reconditioned to as new. The point of the old V8s is that so long as your block is old enough (I think pre 74 but stand to be corrected) the only emmissons standard you need to meet is the visible smoke test. It was quite amusing really at my SVA to see the inspector with his eyes watering from the fumes saying, 'yes, it's fine'
