Probably done to death a while back, but worth resurrecting IMO.

Some have played with the idea of removable side screens, some with opening ones, the latter being a little complicated and perhaps not so successful?

The helicopter vents whilst being OK for a bit of additional airflow, do not address the need where opening the whole door may be problematic say if you are at a toll station? ..or anywhere the door may be obstructed due to adjacent vehicles or walls etc.

And so, has anyone fitted the 'Slide' vents you often see with perspex style windows in race-cars. I suspect they are rather noisy at speed, but if they allow you to stick you hand/ arm out when needed...are they a good idea?

...debate started!

cheers

For a street car, that is parked in public, I'd suggest against the sliding windows for the fact that people could easily break in.

I am wanting to put some type of "pop" catch like some back 1/4 windows have, or use screws to make the side window completely removable (for summer days).

Otherwise, interested to see what other people consider good solutions to opening the windows.

idea
Ahh, but if I did it, I would file the opener to make a reeeelly sharp edge and make it spring close if someone places their fingers/arm/hand through from the outside when the alarm is active! boxedin

get quite a collection that way!

anyhow, how about a latch/lock + alarm - I would have thought is anyone wanted to get in, they would/could, so the alarm is the only (sort-of) deterrent, and then they would have to figure out how to start it with all the umpteen different switches!

Lexan is better than plexi as more flexible and less brittle material. In most racing applications you see lexan mentioned and not plexi.

the slide type as use in race /rally cars have a spring loaded pin that stopped the window being slid open from the outside..once shut it is secured..

The slide type are for a pretty flat panel so would not fit the deep curve of the Ultima side windows.

Not impossible to have made?

Nothing is ever "impossible", just not financially viable.
