Options to quieten the exhaust
Discussion
Most modern supercars have valves in their exhausts so they're quiet enough for tree hugging legislation at low speeds, then open up at certain rpm to give you the aural pleasure you really want.
Ultimas are typically pretty loud and some struggle to get through IVA or track day noise tests - has anyone considered or have experience of these type of aftermarket valves?

If it can be packaged into the exhaust it would seem a fairly neat solution, no add on silencers piggybacked to the exhaust ala the factory trackday setup?

they work well but carbon up and fail if you are running a carb engine..
Fuel injected cars are better as better mapping now a day means they arent as rich and less carbon
my repacked silencers are 96 dp.... and if i had a bypass, the wodding would last longer as silencer would be used as much..hehe

I've quieten mine down by having a longer length system plus going from a 3" to 2.5" dia pipe, some say that's its too quiet now and sounds a bit weird (more like a Corvette than an Ultima) but its more relaxing on a long run.
I might see if I can fit something like these.

Best idea ever. Makes a loud car quieter than a stocker. Have used these on other cars and will do it on the Ultima as well.

Thanks Spatz was thinking of more like 02PRUVs setup.
02, if you've used these before, are they repackable, if not do you think they'll be durable enough in an Ultima?
cheers
id wonder if they will get too hot.. those mufflers are designed to go under a car and about 6 foot away from the headers? a polite email to the makers will confirm if ok!02, if you've used these before, are they repackable, if not do you think they'll be durable enough in an Ultima?

They aren't repackable. I spoke to the manufacture about it and they said the only issue would be possibly burning the fibreglass out of it. That would make it louder when the valve is open but still just as quiet with it closed. The manufacture said they haven't had issues on big HP rotors at all and they have really hot exhaust temps even at the back of the car.
