Finally fired up this AS engine today.
It sounds great!
I put 8 qts (American liquid, not dry. Why theres a difference I don't know) of oil in, took the plugs out and cranked it over a few times. It took longer than expected to get any oil pressure up, but it did finally get there.
Put the plugs back and pressed the starter.
It started first time, but then died and it took a few attempts to get it fired up again.
It was running a bit rough to start with, kept stalling below 1500 rpm, but after a few mins it was running fine. Probably because it's been sitting in my garage since Jan.
I'm not too sure of this accusump though.
Dave at Ultima suggested disconnecting the wiring to it to start with which I did. It's now reconnected. Then to add a further 1 qt of oil which has brought the oil level up back up to near max.
The last thing you want is to much oil in the sump.
The pressure on the accusump now reads 80 psi, yet when I turn the ignition on it's not doing anything.
Is'nt it supposed to pump up the oil pressure in the engine before you press the starter?
Anyway on the whole, being a first time builder I'm pretty pleased with the way it's going. Even the lights and indicators work.

It’s good when it starts for the first time and you get that V8 vibration through your chest.
Disconnecting the Accusump does not keep it closed the oil still pumps into it past the valve it just does not come out again.
There is a positive and negative on the valve so make sure you have it connected the right way round.
If the valve is opening then with the engine off you can hear the oil gurgling through the oilways when you turn on the ignition.
