Hi

To all of those experienced builders out there, how long does it take to fit a windscreen to the GTR?

Richard of Ultima has quoted me 9 hours (@ £62.50 + vat per hour) - blimey I hope I get windscreen insurance with my car insurance !

I am going to take the car and watch them fit it - I am really interested what takes so long. I though it was a smudge of glue and then push into place. obviously not!

What am I missing?

PS always fit the windscreen first BTW, it's easier so you can get your arm thought the closed door window to hold the screen from behind to do the final positioning. Also another tip before you try and use the Windscreen specific mastic tube place it in a bucket of hot water not deep enough to submerge the open end but as hot as you can get it to warm up the stuff as its very stiff. If you have a battery operated silicon gun then even better but still try and warm up the tube before dispensing. The last screen I did we replaced the water with new boiling water 3 times to try and get some heat into the tube, then it came out like normal silicon nice and easy. Just don't get the open end wet so dispensing end down before you cut it open and pusher end up... Also you will probably use more than one tube once you start filling in the gaps left after the screen is in place.

I'm sure I could do it in under 3 hours, so they must be charging for 2 men doing it at the same time as you do need at least 2 to place the screen but only for say 1/2 hour while prefitting and then placement... but that's just IMHO..

They have just emailed me to say that it is actually 4 to 5 hours to fit a windscreen.
