I was just wonering how difficult it would be to re-cover the dash on a GTR. I've seen a couple of cars and to be honest one thing I could see me wanting to do would be to remove a lot of the clocks and radios etc and make it very plain with digital readouts.
I'm guessing its a pig given the limited access and I'd probably end up getting a pro into do it but any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Recovering the dash is not too difficult, as long as you have an eye for detail. The difficult part would be removing the old covering IMO.

The difficulty will be getting the new material down into the bottom edge of the screen. It is bad enough doing it with the screen out so I suspect near impossible to get a decent finish with the screen in.
May be worth considering making a new dash top to go over the existing one. This can then be trimmed before fitting into place.

I would take the screen out as it would be a lot easier to make a good job.

You would need to make-good all the holes you don't want (as I have) and then cut new holes for what you want to fit before covering with the finish of your choice.

This will be quite a lot of work. Steve's idea of fitting another dash over the one there now would work, but you may find difficulties getting switches and gauges to pass through the two thicknesses.

I assume Steve only meant adding a layer to top of dash & then blending in to single layer vertical front of dash. Still some work though

I think the existing dash is adding a lot of strength to the body tub so should not be removed.
There is no reason why you could not remove a large amount of the dash face as long as you leave the rolled section at the bottom edge as I feel this will be in tension and maintaining the tubs shape.
A new dash top and face could then be retro fitted over the existing.

On the subject, anyone used "flocking" for any parts of interior & what's your honest opinion of result, especially durability over time (say 3 years)?

I flocked the interior of my Sport with black 3mm flock about 8 years ago. I undercoated with a black primer before spraying the glue and flocking. Looks a good as I first did it.

Cheers, did you do this yourself or get a company to do it for you ? I notice some DIY kits, but assumed one would need the electrostatic install for best finish ?
