rusting gear linkage

Anyone have trouble with the gear linkage rusting? Are any of you putting any type of lubricant on the linkage, if so what and how are you keeping the road grit out of it. I was thinking about putting some type of boot similar to what is on the steering rack ends over the rose joints to keep out the road dirt. Anyone know where to buy the rubber boot like the ones on the steering rack?

I made my linkage from 316L Stainless, with the Borgeson U-joints and boots from Pegasus Racing. See link - www.pegasusautoracing.com/pdfs/116.pdf .
Of course I forgot to get SS heim joints, so a faint skiff of rust has shown on my SS shafts. I lubed the sliding parts yesterday with a wipe of white grease.

I used a similar joint from mollart (uk company) and used carbon fibre tubes and machined some titanium inserts which are bonded into the ends of the tubes, the linkage is as stiff as the heavy steel factory linkage and less than a third of the weight plus no rust, shifting has improved also.

A carbon shifter shaft sounds interesting. One thing I've noticed is that the shifter has a heck of a lot of inertia which can really slow down gear changes sometimes. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing for gearbox life.
I too use a liberal spray of lubricating oil on the engine bay bits to keep the rust away from the joints and everything lubricated. Got to be careful with how much you use in the cockpit otherwise it gets on the seats and your clothes.
Rubber gaiters sound like a good idea for the joints you have to use in with the centre linkage. You should be able to pick something out of stock at your local motor factors. There will be a car that uses something small on its track rods or similar.
