Hi guys,

I have got a 997 turbo box delivered yesterday. It still has the pressure plate, release bearing and the fork installed, have to discover how I can remove this before I can upload proper images. It looks like a very strong box and from first glimpse not a push type like the 997 but a pull system like used in the G50.
Also the bell looks like a G50 will take measures when the pressure plate is out.
It definetley has a much changed take cylinder compared to the 996,997 or G50,, that I have not got with the box, so will see how I can get one of these.

Here some pics that I have found with take cylinder and starter mounted.

The take cylinder looks kind of funny, this black can could be something like a vaccumm bell that works as a support for the clutch so it does not feel too heavey.
Also these additional hoses. So my guess is that this 997 turbo box has some helper system integrated into the take cylinder to help reduce the force pressing the clutch ?

I have 997 TT box also, but refurbished by CFM in the US.

I did not have a Slave cylinder with it, but I can tell you that you are right, all those fittings were designed to link the slave into the Steering pump on the donor car which then reduced the pressure needed to operate the clutch.

What I did was buy an adapter from Ebay (innovative Autosports) to convert the Slave to a 'bog-standard simple and cheap' single-port slave system, then I have added an MG Servo to add a bit of extra ooomph to the circuit to make it lighter. Then I got an adjustable shaft for the slave made by Steve at Autobionics.

Problem is that I can't find Innovative Autosports any more, so I have shot them a line.

Seems to work a treat!

If needed, I suppose I could send the adaptor off to Steve and he could make another I suspect!

Hi Uwe,

looks like the box I have, G96/50. Standard adapter plate works.

I use a motorsport slave cylinder, lightweight and cheap.

The uprated Sachs pressure plate I use made the car undriveable with the original
master cylinder (0,75"). Clutch was way too heavy. Replaced it by a 0,626" master cylinder.
Still a heavy clutch, but driveable now.

On the left hand side of the box (when mounted in the Ultima) there is a cover held in with (3?)
bolts. Remove this and underneath there is a (10mm from memory) hex bolt which holds the spigot in which the release fork pivots on. You can use an M6 bolt to screw into the end of the pivot then pull it out - the fork will then drop out.

btw I am thinking about leaving the 4wd shaft on the box, it does not bother me too much
if this thing is spinning in the back of the car or is there any problems with leaving this thing on there ?

Fit a pusher propeller for those icy conditions where the tyres can't get traction. wink

Is the centre diff part of the transaxle in a 997? I'd have thought you'd have to disable that if so.

I like the idea of a PTO, imagine how quickly you could mow the lawn with a mower deck attached. I'd go for the GTR though to prevent my hayfever.

Get a couple of bevel gears and setup a fan to suck the air from the underside of the car - active aero!

acutally brilliant ideas, keep them coming, the Porker 4wd has its own diff in the front, so the shaft to the front is not too smart. I would assume
it is probably driven from the same shaft that is driving the crown wheel, maybe somebody knows ?

I think so Spatz, but if you want confirmation why don't you give Roger Brown (Californian Motor-sport) a ping and ask him!

He seems a good guy - always helpful, and he know more about Porsche boxes that anyone I guess!

That would look great with a nice carved, varnished, hardwood propeller sitting just inside the rear grill. Would shift some hot air from the engine bay.

Steve, that might sap just a little engine power (like about half of it! lol also you would need to run a reducer gear or maybe even a CVT gearbox to help keep the rpob at most efficent RPM range (= most downforce / engine cooling).
