Does anyone know if a 1991 (911 964) C2 Tiptronic transmission will fit (reasonably) in a GTR with the SBC? I don't know if the mountings and length are the same. Any other known problems with that unit? I can buy one on the cheap right now with oil cooler, brain, and tip shifter.

Thank you,

Wouldn't the inverted mounting of the transmission cause problems rather than the dimensional aspects (in themselves these could be a problem)

The inverted mounting would place the oil sump at the top (?) of the box!!

You might be able to run an external oil pump. I haven't looked inside one of those gearboxes so I'm not very familiar with it though.
Cheers!

anyone heard any news about the ZeroShift gearbox? Can it really shift faster than a F1 racecar gearbox? What's the price for one?

Had to send this question to the factory. Ted says that it could probably fit without too much trouble, but I would have 5 reverse gears and one forward.

Not exactly the best setup!!!

You could go for the reverse land speed record which I believe stands at 102mph.

Yup! The long answer... The Tiptronic cannot be run inverted, so he was referring to swapping ends!

What prevents it runing inverted, is it just the oil?

Logic says
If it has an oil cooler it also has a pump.
The pump must supply into some sort of oil system of pipes and spray bars.
If the pipes are now in the wrong place then make new ones.
Replace the pump with an external one along with an oil tank.

If the box is cheap enough and the performance benefits are worth it then have a go.

Ha-ha! Souns like I would have to turn the wing around, too!

Those are very good points, Steve. Although, since this will be my first "kit" build, I am probably not going to venture too far from the norm. I really think a re-geared 6-speed Tip would add some extra jazz!
