Front upright question
Discussion
Hi,
I started on the front uprights today (yes they were not assembled at the factory) and noticed a few discrepancies from the diagram in the factory manual.
It appears that I may be missing a few items - for each side I have:
a single seal,
a machined washer,
a large machined flat sided spacer,
a large yellow "Nylock" wheel nut (blue for the other side)
and two identical SKF tapered roller bearings.

The factory diagram does not show either the spacer nor the machined washer but shows two seals.
Anyone know if this is all I need or am I missing something?
Thanks

One part missing, the big galvinised press in cap which is a seal for the other side. When you assemble it should be in this order, hub then rubber seal, bearing and machined spacer (for preload) then the other bearing and big washer which is the replacement for the granada ABS tooth wheel/washer then your locking nut and galv sealing cap. Does that make sense?
Cant quite work out the first numbers on the cap but I think it is FORD 85GB-1131-AB 70 224
Cheers,

In the diagram you may be confusing the item at the top of the line of parts as a seal where in fact it is a steel cap you tap into the end of the housing after the bearing has been assembled and greased.
I cannot remember if there was a spacer for the front assembly but you do it up to a high torque rather than ‘Feel’ the adjustment so it would have to have one.
The latest build manual also fails to either show the spacers in the diagrams or mention them in the assembly text. The spacer may be the ‘growth’ you see on the side of the left-hand bearing in the diagram.
You have replaced the wheel studs with long ones?
Take care when pressing these bits together it is very easy to get the bearing outers started on the cock and will damage the housing. Also the oil seals are easy to dent or deform if you do not apply the load spread over the whole surface.
Enjoy

Thanks guys,
I also received an email from Ted advising that the machined washer is ommitted in the diagram. He reassured me that I had all of the pieces - I forgot to include the grease/dust cap marked FORD in the picture - I do however have the piece in my box. I mistook the dust cap for another seal hence my plea for information.
So the machined spacer washer is installed between the two bearings? Does it separate the two inner races, since it is a much smaller diameter than the outer races and also the bearing stop in the centre of the upright?
Thanks again - good to know that one can depend on this resource (available at any time) especially when the build manual is not explicit enough.
