Silver LS powered car for sale
Discussion
All I would say is to check with the factory about the viability of grafting a piece of chassis on. I think I have seen other photo's of the car that made us come to the conclusion of needing a new chassis. It may well have been the subject of an insurance payout too and either Cat C or D!
It looks like it's Liams

If the chassis can be repaired it seems it could be a decent project?

Having got a long way through a rebuild I have a good idea of what costs are involved in the repair of this car if you want something that looks like a new car.
Would you really want to drive a repaired chassis that you hadn't inspected every inch of at the speeds these cars can achieve!
The body will need quite a bit of work, especially if you strip it off to inspect the chassis. A respray will be required (no silver gel coat).
The engine is basically a standard LS7 at 565hp and we don't know what model G50 the box is.
It is very easy to get carried away with new parts and "modifications" and a realist would price the repair using new parts as well as s/h so you have a best and worst case costing.
Which ever way you repair it, it will cost more than it's worth when finished IMO.
Who ever gets it, go in with your eyes open and then you may enjoy the experience.

Hope everyone is ok
the mount for the transmission looks ok in this photo so i dont think its gone in that hard in the back. Most likley the front took the worst of the impact.
I can see the following items needing replacing
front suspension - both sides including shocks
radiator
cooling pipes
exhaust pipes from the headers back
front lights and covers
a couple of rear lights
new wing
new body
windscreen
1 new front wheel for left side
1 new inner rim for right side
steering rack
cant see the left side front brakes, are they available?
looks like some of the rims on the rear wheels also need replacing

yep Iv been looking at the front nearside and its a mess I would of thought new chassis time , also what with the ends of exhausts being not there suggests they v been hit hard , has the engine moved / stressed the mounts etc ??? just a thought

definately not worth anywhere near the asking price, will be interesting to see if they DO actually rebuild it when no one buys it, because 50-60k for an ultima is a very very hard price to obtain... and pretty much impossible if its a cat c or d...Just remember that if you do buy it and rebuild, if it has an insurance write off history and then you have an accident yourself the insurance company will definately NOT payout full value on a rebuilt write-off. (been there done that!!)
a far better bet is one of the cars thats been listed in the classifieds at only slightly more money for a full on the road package, if you want an ls then do an engine swap.. To be honest even if I was look for a car to rebuild I would rather start with a straight one...

just checked the updated ad and it IS cat D.
Anyone considering paying anywhere near 25k obviously has mental health issues and should seek medical help urgently.
I would value the car at less than half the starting/asking price. I have seen far less badly damaged ultimas sell for even less than that and still requiring a full rebuilt to bring up to a decent standard.

They are certainly failing to take into account that the car will never make 50k-60k as a CAT D!
Lots of work involved in that one IMHO. For 10k-15k might be worth it, but with buyers thin on the ground (not exactly a bouyant market at the mo with people holding on to whatever cash they have), they're going to struggle to shift it.
Still, it only takes onemug buyer

To me it looks like its may have been bought at a salvage auction as a possible light part-rebuild (probably for about 10k as mentioned prviously) then they realised that the car needs a full nut and bolt rebuild. In all honesty I would be very very surprised if they actually did what they say they will and do a rebuild themselves, as a business proposition it just doesnt add up, neither the costs nor the risk involved.
but as you said it only takes one person with money in their pocket with rose tinted specs to jump in without looking, it has been done so many times before.
I used to do a little with salvage can almost guarantee that their will be a huge ammount of small stuff and other damage that cannot yet be seen... salvage cars are only ever worth it when the price is right...and this time the price is definately NOT right.

I stripped my old Can-Am chassis after buying it back from the insurance company for salvage after it was written off (the old chassis was then sent back to be crushed). Unless you have a lot of experience, you're unlikely to spot all the damage until you strip it down.
If anyone is seriously considering buying this, pm me if you would like to know how much I paid for the salvage.

Ha Ha Ive just picked myself up off the floor with hystericle laughter, refering to the Ebay auction for the Cat D GTR "if it doesn't reach the asking price of £25k they will strip and rebuild it themselves, however we expect the price to reach around £29/30k"
can't wait to see the asking price when they try to sell it after the rebuild
Also, I don't understand what's going on with the yellow GTR that has the twin black stripes, its on ebay for £66,986.00 at Alexanders Prestige yet on here in the classifieds for £59,995.00

its actually been on ebay with 2 different companies (maybe selling on comission??) with hugely different prices ... its a beautiful car but the price differences are totally ridiculous IMO..

For anyone considering buying this car I would talk to the factory first. If you rebuild a CAT D it is still a CAT D and worth considerably less. If you use the components to build a car with new chassis and body then you may fall foul of the registration process and have to register it on a Q plate which will also reduce it's value.
The factory should be able to help with these questions.
