Ok, first of the winter jobs is to make silencers repackable variety. So a short while later after a tickle with an angle grinder we have.... fresh air... yep - not much silencer wadding left after 6k miles! - oh yes, and a bit of weld slag and shot blast media! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin:

loll @picture and the arrow with writing pointing it out, otherwise I missed the leftover for sure biggrin

guess you need other stuff in it then you had before! that burnt its way out, what was in it and what are you going to use for repacking?

I was looking around a bit what people use to repack and one is a bit better (last longer) then the other, some are usefull when have a simple exhaust wich you can wrap and put together again, but yours must be stuffed (or how you say that) so I also looked how some do that biggrin
But most say after a few races you have to repack with some materials, i saw some special for exhaust but could handle 650 degrees?

this one though can handle 1300 degrees...

Heat-Resistance increased up to 1300 degrees. Decrease overall muffler weight up to 30%. Superior "loft" Same amount of Silent Sport Premium fills nearly twice as much room (space) as other brands. Supreme sound-dampening properties. Highest resistance against exhaust gas contamination. By far the best and longest lasting sound-absorption material on todays market.
sounds good...I thought I drop it here maybe anyone has experience with that?

End results of one of my winter jobs.... repackable silencers, and some of Zircotec's finest for the headers.

Very smart job.

Was the zircotec coating very costly?

Not quite as much as I thought to be honest - I had a 3 quotes (from different companies) and all were close in overall price, but Zircotec (I felt) offered the best products and options. Also, going for a coloured finish is more expensive than performance white or their primary black colour.

We found that most wadding burns out pretty quickly, even with reasonabley gentle use - you need 'high temperature' stuff - we use PTR Exhausts for ours, and he will also tell you the best way to stuff it... http://www.ptrexhausts.co.uk/

You need to change the style of the baffle... The.l guy that makes my exhausts and Graham's on here uses a titanium perf baffle and after 5k miles at well over 600bhp of turbo power and track work we stripped my silencer to find it hadnt lost ny wadding at all.
Silencers are very quiet as well.

I think the turbo is partially responsible for the longevity of your exhaust packing.
The turbo absorbs quite a bit of the exhaust heat and has a substantial effect on the sound level of the system. Some of the heat is radiated and some transferred to the lubricating oil.
The titanium baffle may be adding to that effect but it is not solely responsible for the long life of the wadding.
