Aircon pipe positioning
Discussion
Hi folks,
I've been browsing various threads just to compare other builds with mine and in 3 cases so far I have noticed the blue Aircon filler cap located in one of the side pods.
However having followed the build manual (possibly wrongly) mine will be located in the engine bay, I'm not sure where as I haven't permanently mounted anything in there yet.
Can anyone clarify the correct / best position for the filler.
Cheers
Pete
P.S. in case it matters, it's an LS3 that's going in it.

I have seen part builds where the pipes have been fitted incorrectly.
If it is your own installation you can choose where you like for the fillers as long as the fitter can get at them and any spilt oil or UV trace liquid will not cause problems.
A Factory supplied system will have the fillers in the RH front corner of the engine bay.

Beware of having the access fittings on the compressor where they point towards the drivers fuel tank.
There needs to be space for the engineers fittings and with the compressor moved outwards to clear the engine mount. It is too tight if the fittings are horizontal.

Bugger. Graham beat me to it. I should stop doing other things in the middle of writing a reply.

You need a fitting on the compressor that has the hose fittings facing the bulkhead then your access ports could point skywards.

This was my problem, massive adaptor block on the side of the compressor which put the charge ports against the tanks, no room for the refill fittings.

This was my solution, charge ports in the drivers luggage pod.

ETA. Go to your local air con place to get an adaptor or to try various fittings, something I wish I did but only found a really good air con place after I fitted the adaptor block.
If you send for an adaptor from the States then be prepared to wait a longggg time for it (then it'll be the the wrong one, twice!!) all in all it took around 8 months to get the right one and that was with the help of Keith (V8Vum).
Can't say who it was (name&shame and all that) but let's just say I have given up going to the 'Doc's'on the block and will just stick to my local air con hospital!!
