Any harm in storing body outside ?
Discussion
Looking to remove rear clam from car & although I have a double garage it would be nice to have extra space around car whilst continuing build.
Is there any problem with storing the rear clam outside, if I support in same position as it would have been on the car ? Just wonder re frosts we have been having, although I'm sure people with fibre glass cars are able to leave them out in the winter
Cheers Dave

Presume it would be covered. UV exposure being my concern.

Could you not hang it from the garage roof?
Paul
I originally had the rear clam vertically against a wall, but was advised it's possible to warp bodywork if it's not supported as it would be when fitted. Wonder if hanging it from roof would have same effect ? No idea.Paul
Thanks for responding guys, appreciated

Keep fresh cut edges away from repeated moisture too.
Its a slow, deathly process on hand laid GRP panels but moisture will creep along tiny, exposed dry fibres or cavities (and there will be plenty although not too obvious to the naked eye) if you have unprotected edges/cut-outs continually soaked.
Can look a bit like solvent pop (another GRP gremlin) under the gel-coat and frequently takes months/years to appear, usually after a hot spell or heating(sun or refinishing process etc )..... well worth a bit of extra effort to seal or weather proof exposed edges from a damp climate.

It's minus 6 outside this morning here, Dave... as you're only a few miles away, I assume you're seeing similar temps. I'd not want to leave a nice GRP body outside in this freezing temp without some frost protection, juuuuust on the off-chance it could upset the GRP. Maybe hanging it on the side wall is an option, just check with the factory how they recommend supporting it (although when I spoke to them recently, the only way they said to store the body was on the floor, supported as if it was on the chassis).
ETA - Dave, do your dogs go outside and do the neighbours have cats? Just thinking if yes, you'd need to make sure that if you do store the clam out there that no animals can get to it as I'm sure they'd like to sit on / under it too! If you need a hand rigging something up in the garage, you know Steve & I are always happy to come round with the hammers

No spare rooms in the house??????

I've got the windscreen and dorrs in the conservatory, much to the annoyance of the missus. Might be pushing it with large orange item Paul

FACTORY can you advise on how rear clip can be stored please. Can it be stored vertically on its end ? If not, from where on bodywork do you hang please ?
cheers Dave

Steve would want to nail it to the wall though

Just as well really as it's likely to be there for quite some time.

Forgot to reply to this one. Had used tough black to cover raw edges of clams, more for from a cosmetic view point, but now knowing this, will revisit to ensure all edges are covered.
