Gearbox question (Not the usual one)
Discussion
I picked up my gearbox yesterday (G50/01 LSD). Great condition except that I need to replace the bearings/bushings on the release fork shaft, and the shaft itself is broken. Not a big deal, but I have a related question...
On the outside of the release fork shaft is a bracket with two fittings. One fitting is a ball fitting, and the other appears to be a cable fitting of some description. I don't want to be dense here, but what is this for, and I assume it isn't used in our application?
Thanks!
Allen

I don't think this would serve the same purpose...
This looks like a kick-down bracket that you'd find on a automatic transmission. It is attached directly to the release bearing shaft on the outside of the bell housing. As I mentioned, it has two "arms", one with a ball fitting, and one with what appears to be a cable connection...
I do not see any purpose for it in our application. I suspect it was used on the 911 as a linkage pivot or something. I know jack squat about Porsche's...

A photo would be useful if not essential.
However, the only thing that springs to mind that has a ball is the throttle pivot (they call it a reverse lever) That has a ball on one end if I remember correctly. Its mounted on a long shaft type stud.
If this is it then its not used in the Ultima
