GTR at TOTB III ?
Discussion
I've just seen a list of entrants to this years Ten of the Best event (www.totb.co.uk) and an Ultima GTR is listed
Power is quoted at 600+ ponies so should be very competitive.
It is listed as entered by Swillington Auto Care, is it someone from this board or does anyone know this car / driver ?
Should be very interesting to see how a GTR gets on against some of the quickest machinery in the country !
I hope the Ultima GTR wins. It should be very competitive, 2000 lbs with 600+ hp
I doubt it will - there are some stupid cars going this year - it's not a level playing field when you've got loads of tuners providing cars purely designed for this type of event.
Even the EVOs are up around the 800+hp mark, so I can't see anything but Jap cars winning.
Theres (apparently) a couple of Ruf Porsches going along, including a CTR - that'll be good to watch.

It will be closer than you think.
A 600 bhp Ultima has approx 600 bhp / tonne
A Skyline or Supra (around 1500kg) will need 900bhp to achieve 600 bhp / tonne
An Evo (around 1300kg) will need 800bhp to achieve the same power to weight.
The Vipers are also heavy.
On the 1/4 mile the 4WD cars will have an obvious advantage off the line but an Ultima is a lot more slippery than an Evo/Skyline/Supra so top speed is another matter.
You would also think that a naturally aspirated, mid engined, lightweight race car with lots of rubber would beat the Evo's and Skylines etc round the fairly tight handling circuit
Should make for a good days competition

How much difference off the line between the GTR and those 4 wheel drive imports? I have read that the Ultima engine sits real close to the rear wheel so gets good traction. Let's say the Evo has the same power to weight as the GTR. Who will win off the line?
The GTR from stand still to 60mph in 3.3 seconds. Some are even faster. Do you believe a Evo with the same power to weight can produce a better to 60?
D3vine,
I hope you are right, if the Ultima can get off the line well then it may have a decent chance in the 1/4.
I've seen big power Skylines and Evo's hit very low 3's to 60mph so it will be down to the driver getting the best out of the car as much as anything else.
gdr,
Who were you talking to ?
I know quite a few of the Skyline guys as I used to own one. Just checked your location so I reckon it was either Hugh or Keith
Both cars are awesome and Keiths will be a fair bit lighter than standard.
Whoever wins I'm sure we will see some 9 sec quarters this year and a few cars breaking 200 on the 1.2 miles

My Scoob (before it was dead
) was officially timed at 3.5 secs 0-60 - it had around 360hp,perhaps a little more - timing was by Vbox.
Norris EVO does it in 2.9 I think - that's with around 700hp.
Thing with pwr, it's all very well low down but is pretty irrelevant (to a degree) when travelling at high speed. So a 900hp Skyline (proper 900, not BS as so many are) despite having a similar pwr to a 600hp ultima, has 300hp extra - and over 100mph that counts for a huge amount.
Last year the top skyline did a 9.95 1/4 @ 153 I think - they'll certainly take some beating.
Obviously you've gotta bear in mind, that a decent 900hp Skyline/Supra lump, or 800hp EVO lump will probably cost as much as a nice Ultima. Plus calling them road legal is stretching the imagination slightly - I bet they're nightmarish to drive on the road - think the 800hp EVO only comes alive at around 5500rpm.....
Will be great to see some decent Ultimas there, if any are going though. I'm sure with 600hp they'll be one of the quicker cars, just not the quickest.

Yesterday night, I saw Fifth Gear on Speed channel. They were showing the Tiger Z100WR doing the 0-60 thing. Tiff set a new record of 2.97 seconds with that 7 style car. It looked damn fast. It's probably because there wasn't any windscreen. With the wind blowing that hard, and the motorcycle engine screaming in the background, it seems like it's going fast.
The Ultima GTR is few tenths of a second slower to 60 than the Tiger but in the videos. The driver doesn't seem to be vibrating or scared of the acceleration. Tiff is scared out of his boots... I bet the Z100WR could break 2.97 if Tiff didn't break the car.
So what's the chance of the GTR or Can-Am hitting 0-60 below 3 seconds without using racing slicks. As long as the slicks are street legal then it would be ok... I've heard everyone saying that there aren't any tire manufacturer producing any 18 inch street legal slicks. Why not go for a small size rim so you could take advantage of the street slicks. Man, it would be nice to sit in a car that could do 60s in 2 seconds.
My friend's EVO 8 did 10.84 @ 134 recently.

now I gotta get to the track again with my Ultima and open up the bottle. I also have some nitto drag radials to try out

That's a very quick time for a full weight car.
I'm presuming the car is running the '600whp' tuning kit they are soon to be selling
What sort of time are you hoping for from your car and how much Nitrous are you planning on running ?
Only a few days to go now and the weather forecast looks good - can't wait to see an Ultima run in anger
