How do you check these. My heater is pretty poor and I want to check that low levels aren't an issue. Looking at the car from the rear the tank to left which I assume is an expansion tank is half full. Should I be checking the one on th right as well?.

Thanks

The tank on the left is a swirl pot which should be full to the brim. It has only a blanking cap on it (no spring loaded seal). Any air in the system gets trapped there then as the system expands the air passes from the top of this tank to the bottom of the expansion tank on the right. This tank has the spring loaded pressure cap. The expansion tank should be no more than one third full when the system is cold. Some owners run with nothing in that tank when cold.
