Hi Folks,

Just wondering what is the current perceived wisdom on where to source Engine and Gearbox?

Do most import the engine from the States?

Who are the well-known and trusted companies?

Where do most people source their gearbox?

thanks in advance

Jake

Wow, LS376/525 Injected engine is new! Sounds ideal for the Ultima (if you can somehow get it through emissions.. ) £5250 = £10/hp, can't got wrong surely?

I believe they are backed by GM and supply the GM range of crate engines. Can't see there being any problems with the product. I haven't used them so don't know what the customer service is like. I don't think you could import an LS3 or LS7 for these prices so unless you want a custom crate engine then these guys look good on price for sure. Mast Motorsports is a good place to look for higher power LS motors but there is a limit to how much power you can put to the the ground in a light weight car, 454 or bigger LS motors would probably be overkill in a car that is already a bit of a handfull!

If you're going off pieste (non-factory engine, with non-factory exhaust), then I agree with Kyle... go for a std LS3, then tune it afterwards, you'll save youself a whole lot of hassle.

If you're buying thru' the factory approved route (American Speed), then you'll need to stick to the factory exhaust, etc and then I believe they'll guarantee you an IVA. Talk to the factory to confirm, but I think all AS engines with std components are good to go.

As for gearboxes, the factory will supply G50 based units or 996/7 Carrera 2 2WD (Gettrag) units. Again, you can go the factory route or try any number of Porsche specialists for a unit. Bear in mind if you go for 996/7 turbo unit, you'll need it converted back to 2WD... no big deal, but will cost you a few hundred quids more.

Good luck with the build, I look forwards to hearing progress. Mark

there pretty good down there...i know they did a v8 supra for a while. They might have experience with getting cars through emission tests and mots. I don't know if you can fool the readings with ecu mapping..........i have no experience with v8's at all....can only bring info on straight six....

I went with Andy Burrows at Gardner Douglas for my tunkey LS7 - http://www.gdcars.com/ (same fitment as his GDT70) - he provided a full package including loom, ancillaries, exhausts etc. Great service, without the risk of hoping what's in the crate is right - my preference was to buy in the uk from someone who could back up what they were supplying.

Regards
Paul
