Central Locking
Discussion
I'm thinking about installing central locking as the alarm already has the wiring there just needs connecting, plus I want to take the door push buttons off and install a 'TVR door type button'. Are there any solenoids that are preferred for reliability, strength etc?
To try and help me out as I’m up against time, has anyone fabricated brackets to hold the solenoids and any tips on wiring up the door opening solenoids?
cheers

Graham - I asked a similar question a while ago, but never quite got a definative answer on the CL solenoids... if someone can recommend a set of locking solenoids, I'd appreciate the advice too! I see there are 4 & 5 wire "universal" units out there, but don't know the difference
In terms of brackets, I think it should be easy'ish to knock something up and will share pics once I've got there (probably not for a while now as the engine is going in soon).

Hi bud, think about what you just said................ if you remove the buttons and the key holes why do you need central locking ???? just let the alarm disable the circuit that controls the door opening button.
But don't worry I did the same on Wayne's car and actually fitted it all before realizing you don't need the central locking actuators... In the famous words of Bart Simpson DOH>>>
The only thing you need to remember is that because of the 2 stage door catches you need to keep you finger on the release button while you open the door, unless you fit door poppers and have small delay on the solenoid so it holds the catch back for say 2 seconds....
PS bud don't think I have your email anymore can you PM me...

I have no door release on the outside,
The type of solenoid below does the job well (go for a high poundage draw) via a bowden cable to release the door catch and a spring popper (also on the same page) to "pop" the door clear of the catch once opened with your alarm remote.

Good point, saved me some fabrication nightmares.....But don't worry I did the same on Wayne's car and actually fitted it all before realizing you don't need the central locking actuators... In the famous words of Bart Simpson DOH>>>
