Oil filter removal with sandwich plate

I've just been retro-fitting the factory oil cooler to my GTR. I had heard some people say that they could get the filters on and others saying they couldn't. The fix being to jack the engine up to get the filter on/off.
I test fitted the sandwich plate, and sure enough, I couldn't get the filter on.
Thre is an aluminium spacer that moves the sandwich plate away from the block as the filter flange is slightly recessed in the block. This spacer comes from Mocal 30mm deep.
Anyway, I went at the spacer on my lathe, and reduced it to 15mm deep, and also reduced the central spigot by 15mm. This leaves enough space to get the -10 fittings on the sandwich plate, and leaves plenty of room to get the filter on/off without jacking the engine.

That sounds like an excellent mod if there is sufficient clearance for the sandwich plate connectors.
I've just replaced the oil and filter on my car and it was a bit of a pig getting the new filter (K&N) in...but no problem getting the Fram filter that American Speed supplied out (it was shorter but fatter).

For those of you with this problem, next time you cmoe to changing the filter it may be worth getting a remote filter plate. That way, you can mount the filter out of the way and make it a lot easier to change next time. Mocal make them.
