Wish i had more time Ultima GTR (15k of new parts unopened)
Discussion
Hi in a dilema right now i have approximately 15k worth of parts new from Ultima. I purchased the parts over a year ago and have since been just stored in garage. I have not had the time to start the build.
Does anybody know if Ultima buy back the parts, as im considering just buying one already built?

I doubt the factory will be interested (but you could ask).
Your best bet is to take some photos and list the bits in the classifieds here. You will take a bit of a financial hit (say 20%) of their value but it should sell quite easily as the factory are very busy and someone may wish to jump start their build.
Good luck.

I have emailed the factory but they are not interested in buying back which i can totally understand. However, Im actually very disappointed with the customer service from Ultima, being a small company i thought this would not have been an issue. I placed my first order with them in Aug 2010 and received delivery of my parts early 2011 and i have not so much as had a courtesy email to ask how the build is going.
This has also made me think whether to continue with my build if i finally get the time or just look at purchasing an Ultima 2nd hand or even a totally different car.

Are you serious? A small company buying back £15k of year old but unused parts to sell on again because you've c0cked up and don't have the time? Why on earth would they? This has also made me think whether to continue with my build if i finally get the time or just look at purchasing an Ultima 2nd hand or even a totally different car.
It's not customer service it sounds like you want, it's charity. They're a business. If you have miscalculated and can't complete it, man up and take the hit on the chin and sell the parts at a loss but for whatever you can get for them.
If you went on to complete the build and were left with some parts you decided not to use, would you also expect the factory to buy them back?
Why do you expect them to email you to see how it is going - some would consider that spam, or touting for business, looking for when they'll get the next order.
If I have a question or problem, I speak to the factory, they answer my question promptly, if I place ane order I get a call or email to confirm, a call when it's ready for shipment, then a load of well packaged and itemised parts.
I have never felt isolated, or a lack of customer service, regardless of me not buying all the parts to finish from them.

I think your disappointment is misplaced.Even if the factory did offer buy back, there would be a serious premium, in just the same way as most current businesses (imagine the % hit on returning a new car/caravan/boat ??). Everyone is having a tougher time of it irrespective of wealth (many with serious money hate to spend it)so you will do better by selling it privately Chris.
Regarding general courtesy, I think much depends on the individual view... some will feel a follow-up e-mail is invasion whilst others see it as supportive and encouraging..... as with many things, its not what you say its how you say it. Many large businesses are looking at customer relations now as its one area that costs little to improve yet can reap millions in future profit.
Eventually many smaller outfits will have to do the same to remain in the game but will that ever affect specialised products ??
Pays yer money and takes yer chance.
Good luck.

Hi, just to reassure you if you do buy a used ultima, like i did, when iv spoken to the factory for a couple of bits of advice and ordered some parts I was treated fine. It didnt feel like " you didnt buy from us so your on your own " senario and if you do buy one i promise you wont be disapointed
In response to deadscoob perhaps you should read what i wrote more carefully. I said previously i totally understand that the factory would not buy the parts back, i myself run a company. Im not looking for charity as money is not the object that you appear to have misread. I did not 'cock up' im afraid i can not predict the future you must be very talented!
As mentioned i run a company that needs to be very customer service based and i nor my customers would regard a courtesy email to see how things were going after such a long period of time? So no this would not be labelled as spam. I was merely suggesting that from my point of view it would have been nice to for the factory to keep in touch during the build process.
I have never said i have a problem asking the factory for help or assistance, they have always answered any emails promptly. Richard has always been helpful and not once have i said nor would say any different.
As yet im still undecided as what to do as i want to build my own Ultima.

both of your posts left me rather confused. You start off saying that you have 15k of parts you have done nothing with as you do not have the time build a car, following that you state that a lack of customer service has left you considering whther you want an ultima or not and then in your last post state that you are undecided what to do as you want to buld your own car?? Why would the factory send out courtesy emails to see how customers are getting on with their builds? Some people take many many many years to complete cars (indeed many are never finished) And if they did what would you expect them to have done about your situation... offer to send one of their factory workers out to build the car for you? I dont see anything that should make you "VERY DISAPPOINTED" with the factory as you state. As mentioned i run a company that needs to be very customer service based and i nor my customers would regard a courtesy email to see how things were going after such a long period of time? If you really dont have the time to build a car then I can put you in touch with at least 3 people who would build a car for you.

There is nothing to be confused about. 15k approximately of parts unused due to time, i asked a query about buying back nothing more to use the funds to purchase a 2nd hand car I DID NOT EXPECT THE FACTORY TO BUY BACK but asked the question. I do wish to build it myself or buy second hand. Why would i want somebody else to build it when i can just purchase 2nd hand far cheaper??? A courtesy email is just that 'courtesy' nothing more. This is done by many businesses like my own that use promotions/marketing/newsletters/emails etc- this is what fundamentally makes most businesses. Anyway my initial query has been somewhat confused.
Ok, so you didn't expect them to buy the parts back.

So you're very disappointed with their customer service because they didn't send you an email? Or is there something else underneath that? If there's nothing more to this than you haven't received an email to check how you're doing, I'm struggling to see how you could be "very disappointed" with their service.
ps - edited to add, the service I've had from Ultima has far exceeded anything I've experienced from Audi, BMW or Porsche.

Explanation already given regarding my feelings on customer service. I'm not sure why your being argumentative about my feelings on this matter.
I can't think of any company, off hand, who's sent me a 'courtesy email to check how I'm doing'. (They may ask if I'm on the phone or already in email correspondence, but never had one 'out of the blue'.)As such, the absence of such an email would be, for me, the 'rule' rather than the exception. So as a result it is perplexing to me that you consider a lack of such an email to be a reason to be 'very disappointed', unless there was more to it?
No you haven't. You said you were very disappointed with the customer service recieved, then you go on to say you you were "merely suggesting that from my point of view it would have been nice for the factory to keep in touch during the build process."
And then "I have never said i have a problem asking the factory for help or assistance, they have always answered any emails promptly. Richard has always been helpful and not once have i said nor would say any different."
Well actually you said you were very disappointed with the customer service, wheras it sounds like the customer service was pretty good you just thought it would be nice for them to keep in touch.
This is not me being argumentative, this is due to you posting on an internet forum that you feel you have received bad customer service when clearly you haven't, you just wish you had received an email from them.
As the owner of a small business, surely you should be aware how damaging out of context comments can be on the internet....
