I’m not a mechanic, but was wondering....
Discussion
At work currently have engineers that have striped the top half of a 12 cylinder 3,000hp marine turbo diesel engine in two days. So I was wondering.... how long does it take a trained mechanic with all the tools and lifting gear to gut an Ultima engine bay with an old V8, gear box and all the trimmings in preparation for a fresh LS3 / LS7 install? Aplogise in advance if a stupid question, just day dreaming, on watch, stuck in port. Ult-jim.
Taking it out is the easy bit and would take about a day.
Designing all the new fuel system, oil system, A/C plumbing, installing it, taking it back out again when a trial fit of the engine shows all the places it clashes, and so on.
Could take a week or more of solid work. This is assuming the engine already has all the brackets etc for the ancillaries.
If you go away from a Factory supplied package you could likely add another week trying to sort things like clutches, release mechanisms, starter motor, A/C compressor etc.
Even then you will still need to do all the wiring.
Lots of forward planning required.
