Well, I still have quite a bit to do but I have booked an MOT for Friday afternoon.

I may not make it but I will try. The car won't be finished but hopefully enough to pass the test and maybe make it to Stoneleigh.

Bit of a setback today. Collected my starter motor, fitted it, did a few other jobs pre-starting the car. Cranked it over and she fired straight away but the starter stayed engaged with a nasty grinding noise - quick switch off. Bu**er! The teeth on the starter look a mess.

Does anybody know if the factory stock starter motors for the G50-52 box?

I will give them a call tomorrow but if they don't I suspect I will not be at Stoneleigh.

Paul

where have you fited the starter?

my g50/52 box has a mounting in addition to the engine block... in other words there are 2 places you can fit the starter?

Hi Dom

There is only one place on my G50-52 to fit the starter which is with it facing the engine through the hole on the side of the bell housing.

The Factory are now on the case!

I will be collecting a new starter from the Factory tomorrow. They have a batch arriving tomorrow morning. Well done chaps!
Richard told me there are quite a few different configurations for the various Porsche gearboxes.

I will cancel the MOT as there is no way I will make it. I want to get the starter problem sorted in case I have to pull the gearbox before completing the car.

I have a number of jobs needed to complete the car that I was going to put off until after the weekend (Stoneleigh) and now I will get them all finished before I start to use the car. I would have had virtually no shake down time either.

Depending on the weather and how the next 3 days go I may still come to Stoneleigh but it will have to be in either the Disco or Cerbera!

No, not to old, its in the LuckP shake down event thread where he did his first drive in X8 in that gumball rally thingy. Got halfway accross europe before it was realised that there are 10 and 11tooth starters.

thats if my memory is not as bad as yours

Yes there are 2 different flywheel ring gear teeth counts available on the small blocks, but I did not realise that was a problem for LS engines too..

Paul, my starter is fitted to the engine so it faces backwards, but there is another hole in the gear box so the starter could point farwards if mounted there..

LS Im not sure how many mounts available.
