Hi chaps,

Having been to the stonleigh show this weekend and seen the latest fantastic ultimas, I spotted the latest taillights that I think look ace.

I'm rebuilding a TVR Tuscan from the ground up (my post: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... and one of the things I want to replace are the dated head/tail lights.

Having approached the stand and talked about the tail lights I asked to see them illuminated, that clinched e deal, that was until I mentioned that I did not own an Ultima, but instead a TVR. I was then told in no uncertain terms that they will not sell parts to non Ultima owners. "it's company policy"

Now.... I get where they are coming from. I worked briefly for NG cars straight out of uni. Some kit car people can be a right PITA and take up a huge amount of time, however, even when I told him I have a friend who is a professional auto electrician and therefore i wouldn't bother them once the transaction was complete, the response was the same.

So I figured, I could go driect to ULO direct. But I can!t find their website! Does anyone know it?

So I tried requesting a pair on their website, to which I got the question back... What is your chassis number? :-(

So.....I suppose I!m asking a few things today.
1. If Ultima scan these forums, can I PRETTY PLEASE has a set of tail lamps smile????????
2. If that begging doesn't!t work....does someone have a set they don!t want and would sell me?
3. Or, is someone with an Ultima, that is about to order a set, willing to order 2x sets so I can buy them off you instead?

Cheaky I know, but he who dares Rodney.

Cheers guys.

Martin

If you can't get a set of Ultima one's why not opt for a set of Lotus Elise rear lights.
If the Factory don't want you to have a set then any owner supplying you with some would probably incur Ted's displeasure.

You're more likely to get a set of the "pre-led" type from an owner who has upgraded. I know some people who prefer the look of the earlier lamps..

Few more options here too:

Does anyone know where you can get some LED headlights? I saw a set on a Mini the other week which looked good. Our bulbs shatter from the vibration levels we get over kerbs etc which is a real PITA.

If you're looking for early model try it on ebay or your local scrapyard. FIAT COUPE TURBO

Try these: http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/category/mix-match-lights/

I was thinking of them, but decided (somewhat uncharacteristically) to stick with factory units in the end.

And bizzarely whilst potentially getting upset about selling a set to a non Ultima owner, inadvertantly causes someone to open the floodgates direct to the manufacturer of the lights!!

I don't really see the problem selling to a non Ultima owner "Caveat Emptor" and all that.

Have you seen the LED bulbs you can fit in place of an incandecent bulb? Just need to fit a resistor of the equivalent ohms and your sorted!

I have, though never tried them, can't imagine they are any good but maybe give them a try. Need a fair amount of light when you are doing 180mph down the Hanger straight at 3am!

With respect we are 100% confident that we didn't personally insult you unlike your quoted post above.
We likely merely stated our company policy which we stand by.
We have formed the policy by learning the hard way.

You can run your business how you prefer, you perhaps need to appreciate that it isn't realistic to assume that your own company policy will suit a different company in a different industry.
Policies are made within companies for exceedingly good reasons that benefit the business model.

Ultima owners will always take 100% priority at Ultima Sports Ltd.

PS- ULO will only sell lights in batches of "hundreds" and they are generally hard to obtain and "made to order only" with a long lead-time so we like to reserve a large quantity of them for Ultima owners only.
imagine what would happen if there was sudenly a run on ultima rear tail lights and the factory had sold out of them, can only imagine that an ultima owner would be most displeased at having to have their car of the road while they waited for a spare part to be manufactured from an outside supplier, even more so if it was known that they had sold the last spare part to a non-ultima owner.

On a similar note, you can’t even buy Subaru STI parts for your WRX from Subaru if you don’t have the correct body number. Have a mate who found out the hard way when his body number didn’t match Subaru’s. Car had been re-birthed, had all the STI bits including correct engine and number, just didn’t match the body number.

Worse than useless. The only LED headlamps that will be a viable replacement for halogen bulbs will need their own, custom optics, and will probably be made up of multiple 5+ watt dies. They also need proper heatsinking and drive circuits. I think mercedes have been experimenting though.

Uh-oh shoot

I see both sides...... Where the factory have done work finding these suppliers and have to make minimum orders, wait for deliveries, etc, I can completely see why builders take singular priority. Think of the number of parts that go into these cars, for a small company like Ultima to carry abundant stocks of all items to satisfy demand from all quarters would be a logistical & financial nightmare.

As a builder, I often have to wait for parts orders to reach me, but I accept it as I understand that Ultima can't stock everything and need to juggle customer order & supplier demands. I don't envy that one bit!

While I sympathise with you not being able to get Ultima parts for an alternative car, as an Ultima builder, I'd be royally annoyed if parts I wanted were allocated to non-Ultima customers and caused me large wait times.

Sorry, I'm with the factory on this one, but as this thread has shown, there's plenty of alternatives our there, so it shouldn't be too big an issue wink

PS- On a more positive note, we have quite a few photos of your Pulse Sportscar taken in the 1990's whilst it was being displayed in the race paddock at a National GT Race. If they are any use to you for a part of your cars history just give us a shout and we will post them out to you.
i have got some photo's from derek, but any extra would be very appreciated, maybe you're not such a bad lot after all, just can be very frustrating at times when with a project like mine just just want a bit of guidance from someone who has been there before rather than falling in a big holebeer
