Hi. Was up north weald yesterday for test n tune day ( run what ya brung ) eventualy posted a fairly good time ( 12.47 @ 123 mph ) but boy was i having trouble getting it of the line loads of wheel spin 1st & 2nd my best time came when i just tickled it off the line in 1st and then popped it into 2nd and soon as traction started to brake changed up to 3 rd, my previous runs had been all at 120 mph finish or more but getting it started was a pig , now my question is, i did think about launching it in 2nd gear but in my mind this didnt seem right ? ? Those of you who have done 1/4 mile timing what gear did you pull away in has anyone used / tried 2 nd off the line ?

Depends on gearing and power delivery.
Short shifting can help as you found out, did you "bleach" you tires and heat them up before the run?
I know its an easy way of destroying tyres but how badly do you want to improve your time and terminal speed?
Traction is a major issue for a fast time, most often high terminals are a product of horse power and a "relatively" relaxed start.
Ultimas are not the best to get off the line because of running the Porsche (any) transaxle, to get real traction off the line you need a proper 4 link set-up, all(Majority)the top fuellers are like this.

Hi warmed them slightly ( small wheel spin session rather than total burn out ) so yeah hands up not as warm as they could be, thats why i was erring on using 2 nd gear , hi yep i saw your smart think i pulled back to let you off trailer 1st thing in the morning
