Side Repeater

Has anyone changed the orange oblong side repeater for another style, one that covers the opening?

Not me... but a follow up question - what are they off? - I've got bog standard orange ones and would like to see what clear crystal ones look like.... but not the new oval factory ones, I wanty to retain the rectangle shape

I have clear led's as shown in Novipec picture. They cover hole (just) and are stuck on with body trim tape. Lasted 2 years so far.

I have that type on another car of mine.
It is an array of LEDs in clear plastic.
In my case the plastic has gone all milky so I would not recomend them.

We use another type of about the same size but takes either a capless bulb or an LED verion of the same bulb.

I now have the Factory rear LED lights, standard side repeaters and LED front indicators and side lights.
A warning for those thinking of doing something similar.

You will have problems with the flash rate. The standard relay is a definite no-no. The issue is the resistance that the relay See's. LED lights create virtually no resistance so the relay thinks the bulb has blown and flashes quickly.

You can get relays that are for LED lights but they may not cure the problem entirely. You will need to fit resistors as well to the get the correct flash rate.

I have a 0.02ohm relay and still need resistors. I have yet to get the correct resistance resistor so have a hidden 50w indicator light (painted black) hidden under the front clip for each indicator.

Just a warning that things are not as simple as changing the lamps.

Haven't the factory covered that with a LED flasher unit?
I have LED front flashers and incandescent rear, the flasher unit I have is for both, as far as I'm aware the flash rate has stayed the same. When I was looking for a electronic unit there were about 6 to choose from.

Does anyone know if the new factory LED side lights can be simply fitted to an older car? I don't like the oval that much, but clear is much better than orange.
