U.S.A. Gathering of Ultimas and Ultima Builders
Discussion
Now that there are a couple of Ultimas on the road and quite a few under construction is there any interest in a gathering of USA Ultimas and Ultima builders? I have nothing specific in mind as far as times or places and recognize it's a rather large piece of real estate. Just a post to see what the interest is. I searched the previous posts and could not find anything on the subject.

I am very interested but I would like to complete my build first so that I can at least get to drive it to wherever the gathering will take place.
On the other hand I may just fly out if it is too far to drive (remember I am probably as far north as Siberia in terms of latitude) or if it takes place this summer since I am anxious to check out other completed ULTIMA's in the flesh.

My first thought was a gathering at a race but here's an idea for a different type of gathering. My business is located in West Chicago....about 40 miles west of downtown.....in the far west suburbs. I have indoor, heated, well lit, VERY secure room for about 30-40 Ultimas (don't think there's that many around). If your car is done, drive or trailer it. If your still building.....trailer it. We have plenty of room for trailer storage as well. We can all have a look and see what everyone else has done and compare notes.....and make wild ubsubstaintiated claims about high HP. For the builders you may even bring along something you've been having trouble with and maybe get some help getting it right. We have access to standard shop tools and air. There are plenty of places to stay, great food and plenty of places to have a drink. For those with driveable machines there are some great twisties out to the west and I routinely do a 2 hour tour stretching out my 944. We are located in the fox river valley so don't picture a flat cornfield type area.....some very nice scenery. We could make this a weekend affair....show up on Friday or Friday PM...do the car thing all day Saturday and Sunday and return to home on Monday. Who knows, we might even convince Ted, Richard or some of our friends from Europe to pay us a visit. American Speed is just 2 hours....make that 1 hour in the Ultima demonstrator....so perhaps they can make an appearance as well. I would need to limit this group to owners, and serious prospective owners....not a general open to the public event as being on an airport......security is a big deal these days. I have not given consideration to a date or even a time of year other than "not when the snow flies".
Perhaps "the gathering" could become an annual Ultima affair.
Sorry for being so long winded. What do you think?

This is a great idea. I am not a builder yet, but hope to be very soon. I had the pleasure of meeting Ted at the recent Anaheim Kit Car Show and saw my first GTR. Sat in it and my a@@ will never be the same! Got to build one...
I would gladly make the treck from Reno to Chicago (area). My wife's family is in the Milwaukee area, so she would have something to do while I play!
I would suggest HOT AUGUST NIGHTS as a venue at some point. If you are not familiar, there are over 5,000 pre-1972 autos running around town this week.
One of the most interesting I have seen so far was a tubbed '62 Nash Metro with a pumped SBC. Lots of "street-legal" pro-street rods rumbling all over the city. It's very cool. I know the Ultima would be very popular. And every other car that drives by smokes the tires a little (with some taunting of course).

Thanks for the responses and emails. As one person put it.....you can't please everyone so just don't try. Check your calendars for a Friday November 5th arrival and a Sunday November 7th departure. The race idea will work much better once more people have cars on the road......and hopefully we'll all get toether for several. I'd really like to encourage as many builders as possible to fill up a trailer and bring the build along! This should be a great chance to get some help and suggestions about your car first hand. Think of this as a builders symposium/car show/cruise/social event. Those of you who have a car on the road please be ready to share a ride with as many prospective builders as possible. I'll be working on an agenda once I get an idea of how many people plan to participate. Please email your questions, comments and plans to participate to prbsco@aol.com.

I knew this would happen. There just will be no date when everyone can make it. Maybe if we get a large enough group we can tempt you to skip your race? If not, maybe next year!

I checked with the authorities. It seems we can get on the runway for 1 high speed pass.....followed by a high speed race with the State Police and FBI.....followed by 20 or 30 years in the big house. It might be worth it

The dates are set and we have over ten owners/builders and 5 confirmed cars with several other possibles. We also have a number of prospective builders who want to see your car and pick your brain. Jeff Schwartz will be in attendance so this will be your chance to see his award winning GTR up close.
Check your calendar for November 5-6-7 and join the rest of us for a couple days of Ultima talk.
