Anyone know where I can get adaptor plates, clutch etc off the shelf for a Hewland NLT / LS7 combo?

Hi Crafty,

It's pretty much a custom job.

You might be able to adapt a "blank" LS adaptor plate / bell housing, though flywheel, clutch, release bearing and starter will likely be custom.

For mine Nick Beere at Ark Racing Ltd http://www.arkracing.com/ did the flywheel and starter set up (it a remote starter with a shaft that runs forward to the flywheel). You can pick weights, ring gear design, etc, etc. Nick I feel is top guy, though very busy, he may even be able to point you in the right direction for the adaptor plate.

On the NTL you need to find out or specify the input shaft dimensions and spline or if you already have one find out what it is and check if it works length wise9, though think they are fairly easy to change. Hewland have all the manuals and installation dimensions to download from their website.

Once you have all that you have do the maths with all the distances and clearances and get the release bearing and clutch. I’d look closely at Tilton as they do many different combinations.

With this or any transaxle installation alignment is CRITICAL!

Of course now you’ve got a great box you’ve got to go for PADDLE SHIFT!!!

I'm going for the same box you guys are using. Did Steve McDonald ask you about the spindles yet? He was going to ask what you did so I can upgrade mine with the install.

I'm going to go paddle shift on mine with a Proshift setup. Steve said they will give me a hand with getting it setup with the box. Something you guys might be interested in as well?

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the info. We are looking at getting their Bump and Blip system put on for the 24hr as a trial from Proshift - more for ease of use rather than outright speed. We currently run a cable throttle as the TB is bigger than the standard DBW version, plus the standard DBW isn't capable of the blip by all accounts, so we were looking at their system to get the autoblip sorted moreso than anything else.

We currently run flatshift through the Motec run off a strain gauge in the knob, which works very well. Just missing the blip (and paddles of course!).

You can contact me at jonny(at)macgracing.co.uk
