clutch monster

Goodness!
So there was I wiv a vacuum servo on the clutch line boughtr meny moons ago - having issues (which I suspect was bleeding problems to coin a phrase) - so I took the servo out of the circuit over the weekend to "prove" the clutch operation. Today I bled the thing and...
Jeez crikey! I cannot believe how heavy it is - but it works! Almost got the cramps!
This twin turbo box usually uses a servo operated off the steering hydraulic circuit, but without that complication, it is a nightmare...especially for an old bloke not wishing to start weight lifting for a hobby!
SO.... Do I percivere with the servo, or do I find another way of making the clutch pressure needed a little more acceptable????????
Ideas please on the back of a fag packet!??

What other exercise do you get.
Come on, man up and manage without a servo.
I have one of these which I use since I junked the servo on mine.

Smaller bore master cylinder and a small adjustment to the pedal ratio.
My clutch was too heavy to hold at traffic lights and low speed manouvering, now I can actully use it "normally" but the pedal does need to be pushed all the way down to disengage fully.
Vacuum servos are a nightmare especially with blown applications, best avoided.

Paul - roughly how much easier? Are their claims of 1/3rd valid?http://mpl-tuningparts.de/english/porsche.html
Paul
...and approx cost?
...and to make it even easier (if needed), I suppose you could change the master as well to a smaller bore?
Dom...
Which part number did you go for or have you got a little more info?
cheers

I've got a std Ultima master cylinder and a GT2 slave cylinder on my 996 twin turbo 'box, if that helps Keith.
No fluid in it yet, so I can't comment on how heavy / light it is, but the AB boys said it'd be "fine"
I am not sure what slave I have - but because of the original weird slave mounting (to accomodate the TT massive bulbous slave with a million ports) - I use an adaptor that can use a std slave (Think this one is an OEM) - all I can say is I am somewhat shocked at the massive amount of pressure needed.....Cripes! I'll have to crawl under my car and take a pic, but from memory, I'm not using the std TT mounting for the slave. The 'box casting has the position for the GT2 slave, which needed to be drilled out and re-tapped to allow use of the GT2 release fork and slave cyl. If that helps!356Speedster said:

A part number for the slave might be useful.I can then try to find out what difference there is between what I have and the GT2 slave.
I know I would find it difficult to cope with the pressure as it is now - so I have to find the right solution....
Found an old thread which mentioned that 5/8 master or 7/10 rather than the 3/4 master would possibly reduce the pressure, but the trade-off will be a longer travel.
Not sure if either of the two above alternatives would result in clutch drag or not for the TTurbo.... unless someone has done this already (with the TT box)?????
Anyone care to comment?
cheers

My master cyl is std Ult, it's just the slave that's a Porsche GT2 one.... AB reckon it's good having used it on installs before.
I'll get under the car tonight to try to get the PN for you. If you want to give Dave a shout, he's got the same setup and hasn't fitted anything yet, so he'll have it all to hand for inspection ;-)

I have a G50-03 with the factory clutch and servos. I find the effort to be very acceptable but at times I have to double stroke the clutch to get the next gear down. No sycro noise or gear clash I just feel the resistance in the shifter and stop pushing restroke the clutch and all is well. I wouldn't mind a bit more clutch pressure in return for a faster, shorter clutch disengagement. Thoughts? thanks lee

Not trying to teach but have you tried bleeding the clutch recently Lee?Paul
no suggestion is a bad suggestion, I take good input any where I can get it. Yes, I have bled it but it could have a small internal leak. The problem is very rare maybe once every 100 gear changes and it does not seem to be getting worse. But of course I want it gone completley. I think that's going to take a change in one of the cylinders and undoubtly the first one I pick will be the one that isn't affected. So I was hoping somebody had the same experince I had and was good with the effort and thought a little shorter stroke was in order and what his result was. Lee

there is a lot of confusion in this thread, 3dee mentioned he is using a turbo box which is an all different animal to a standard G50.
First of all it has a much stronger pressure plate, so hence the heavy clutch. Second the original porsche take cylinder is a huge piece with hydraulic support that needs chassis modifications if you want to use it (i did). GT2 slave cylinder will require machining the box and buying a fork for a GT3 box as only the turbo box has the wrong orientation fork !
AB is working on an adaptor so you can avoid the machining and use the Gt2 take cylinder on the origignal unmodified turbo box.
