What are your methods of insulation the bulkhead?

Any alternatives to Stigs method (heat shield, sides taped with metal tape, use of adhesive)?

For example, I have no idea where to buy the metal tape?

What I found as an alternative is gold foil.

Don't know if the edges look neat.

I have an aluminum panel (the Factory made it for me) on the engine side to provide a better fixing for everything that mounts on there. Inside the cabin I have a cover over the roll cage at the back and have filled the void with sound deadening (sisal based I think).

The gold foil will help reflect the heat but you still need something to reduce the noise too.

Gold is Good if you can afford it and it fits your 'look', but I went another route (slightly).
I had made an ally panel that allowed me to place oll the hanging bits to the engine bay before I fitted the cab -

Lots told me I would have problems fitting the cab afterwards, but it worked a dream. Then I covered the whole thing in the same heat mat that is used for the rear clip (woven stuff with ally foil) and use 'this' tape for the edging, which is brilliant and I used everywhere...

Very recommended from me anyway!

I insulated the cab bulkhead inside, and then added another ally layer bonded over the roll-cage from the inside to complete the 'sandwich' if you will! Nice and cozy!

Nice approaches smile

For me as a beginner the gold foil has to do the job I guess (aluminium panel is too difficult). Acoustic insulation is not important for me, in my previous car I was wearing earplugs as well.

Will see if I can find some alu tape here, looks great.

You can get the gold foil at Nimbusmotorsport with the "Thermo-Tec" product and in different sizes: http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ProdShop2.asp?id=8...

Not sure if the question relates for front or rear bulkhead, so I'll give my solution to both!

Front: Reflect-a-gold on the radiator side of the std alloy panel. On the inside of this panel (in the cockpit) I have used some further heat & sound proofing material (like Dynamat). Then this is covered with the further alloy panel I made to go in the footwell, which itself has been carpeted. Pics show this better:

Rear: Again, alloy panels double skinned, with Dynamat type stuff in the sandwich. The engine bay side is then full gold lined and the cockpit side is leather trimmed. Pics again:

Other heat shielding...... I've got more gold on the engine bay faces of the fuel tanks & airbox and I've used Nimbus around the exhaust headers to further deflect heat...

Hope these help..... pics are better than words smile

To make things easier and delivery faster, I ordered the gold foil from a dealer in my country ( http://www.turbozentrum.de/abgassystem/hitzeschutz...).

If the edges are not looking good, I will buy some tape, still thinking of choosing alu or gold tape ...

Nice pics! Do you think it will get very hot in the area in front of the foot space? As the warm air from the cooler will blow outside or am I wrong?

Using a mixture of thermal velocity products throughout the car to add heat shielding and insulation as well as visual appeal in the engine bay.

Thanks! Feedback from owners is that heat wash from the radiator hits the front ally b-head and that radiates head into the footwell. It's easy to make a double skin panel for the inner face, so I figured "why not"!! I've also heat proofed all the way around the cockpit ally panels and used foam insulation on the radiator side pipes, just in case.

I looked at T.V., don't they re-package a lot of other people's stuff (e.g. Nimbus & DEI).... do they make much themselves?

My front panel is carbon, insulated inside and double skinned, don't get any heat coming through.

Gets a bit warm - but really don't know what the big fuss is all about - hardly burn my feet.

speedster: That's as nice a job as I have seen posted. After all that great effort I am a bit suprised that you didn't coat that lovely exhaust and headers. Lee

Cheers Lee. I thought about it, but figured I'd see how under-clam temps go with the Nimbus & DEI. I've got more to go on the underside of the clam itself. I like the look of the exhaust system in the metal, so didn't want to coat it. However, if I need to later, I can do easily enough.

Apologies, Thumbsnap seems to be playing up, so I can't see the pic you quoted.... presumabbly you're refering to the carbon intake pipes from the air filter to the TB? If so, they were made by Auto Bionics.

yes that was the one.

Thanks - look nice, i have no idea how they make a carbon S bend. all the ones i have seen have been formed over a mandrel and then had the mandrel slid out. Presume you have to have a 2 piece design and slide it out of each end?

As far as I'm aware it's moulded, no mandrel... I know it took them a long time, but they're sorted the process and can make more now.
