Under it's own steam!
Discussion
The next big milestone has now been hit!
For the very first time the 'beast' gingerly moved out of the garage with no-one 'pushing' out of camera-shot!
I got in - fired up - stalled! Fired up again and slowly rolled out into the sunshine. It was only then I needed to reverse again to get a better shot of turning left around my drive, cos I needed to turn around.
It was then I realised first-hand how impossible it is to see anything behind (no mirrors yet), so employed the missus to check and direct (last one possibly was dangerous!).
The deed was done, eventually but my impressions:
It is not a beast! - It's a frikkin MONSTER! ...especially as it is running as rough as a 'rats @@!' at the moment, and that clutch is still massively heavy, and visibility over the front wheel bulges is something I am going to need to get used to....
....With grin from ear-to-ear, knackerd from 10 mins of manoevering with a few heart-stopping moments when I got too close on one side..... I retired to the couch with a much-needed 'tinny', and a missus, that is now begining to realise that her dread that 'the day that beast will be roadworthy' is finally looming!
My mental note are to see if I can refit the vacuum assist for the clutch (has anyone else done this successfully?), get that engine sorted so it runs smoothly, and get them mirrors on (just started).
Good weekend!
Added: It reminded me of when as a lad, I was asked to walk a friends rather unruley Alsation. I did NOT feel in control...the damn dog was pulling me everywhere, and I knew that it could turn around and bite my head off at any time! Needless to say I was somewhet relieved that I got back in one piece!

I did see this before, but i wonder if the 30% reduction on effort is actually true?
If it is, then it is worthy of consideration for what is an expensive slave.
I presume that advertising the 30% reduction (and they have not used the words 'up to', which is what most would put in to cover themselves) is then a statement that they would have to live up to in law?
Mind you, the fact that english is not their first language, the get out might be that the translation was at fault?
..Does the German version of theis site specifically infer 30% reduction? Do any Germans here know about this?
I would be keen to know....
Bluesatin - casting no aspertions on your experience at all! I just apply a healthy dose of scepticism to most things advertised!
If they or someone can verify their claims, then... I will get one!
cheers

The German version states "around 30%" less force needed. What is "around"? +-20%?
I'm not sure if Germany has a Trades Descriptions Act, judging by their advertising and labelling which is often incorrect, or maybe they don't police it as stringently as we do in the UK.
Check out their patent. There may be some more info there.

Could have done with one of those on my GT3, as the clutch was way too heavy
.
So Keith, not long before we have a grey Ultima blocking lanes round here, as you try your 3 point turns

Dunno aboot 3 pointers - the way I had to saw the steering-wheel the weekend - more like 6 point turns! and now my left 'clutch' leg is in a splint

Currently I am figuring out the wing mirrors - and yes - I have gone the can-am style. I wanted to avoid the 'bunny ears' look. Never liked them - If I want to look silly, I can always wear those in the cockpit!
Has anyone got some gems here - the motor in the mirrors are held with 3 screws directly into the GRP behind. Two, screw down nicely, but the one on its own at the top has a seat nuch deeper, and seems to only go so far and doesn't 'bottom out' like the others - same both sides, so I assume it is only there to stop rotation?
I also appear to have three wires free each side (from the dash area leading to the side repeater areas) that are taped up together with the side repeater wires and the door switch wires, but I cannot identify them as they do not appear in the loom diag I got a couple of years back from Clive. On each side two wires go to a block (can't remember the colours - think one side is black/white and purple and something), and a third (yellow) using its own single block connector. Any ideas?
I think it depends on the type of gearbox if the MPL cylinder is of use or not.
It is a replacement for the Porsche part used with G50 boxes where the cylinder is mounted at an angle.
The bore is not in line with the fork´s direction of movement causing side loads to the cylinder walls.
MPL says the coating of the bore reduces the friction and accordingly the needed force.
In addition the bore is slightly bigger.
Uwe had bought the MPL cylinder for his G50 and I could try it in my car.
But I have a G96/50, no angled mounting here hence no improvement.
Clutch was as heavy as before.

I have just placed an order and my box is the same as yours!
I will have to try to cancle then - what a waste!
Did ytou try anything else?
Has someone successfully used a Vaccum assisted unit?
Keith,
as my gearbox/engine sits very low in the car I use a small Girling slave cylinder
that is short enough to fit between bellhousing and chassis crossmember.
http://www.isa-racing.com/index.php/cat/c365_Girli...
Bore is 7/8".
With the original master cylinder my uprated SACHS clutch was extemely heavy,
impossible to drive the car this way.
I now use a 5/8" master, clutch is still heavy but way better than before.
No problem with pedal travel as the clutch needs very small movement to release.
I even can use a pedal stop (piece of wood taped to the pedal at the moment) to limit the travel, works well.
Will see if I can find a way to smooth the clutch even more.

Michael,
I also went for a 5/8th master and it made a world of difference. Before, you needed to be built like the hulk to press the clutch pedal. Now it is still very heavy, so looking at all sorts of angles to try to make the experience of driving not a dreaded one!
What size are the standard OEM GT2 style ones, which is what I have?
Finding a bigger bore version might just be the answer, as long as it fits in the adapter mount I have!
This is the adapter:

Keith,
dont´t know the size of the GT2 slave.
Further reduction of the master´s bore would help, but not available with integrated
reservoir.
Interesting link, similar contruction to what I made to mount the Girling slave.
They mention a "clutch assist spring assembly", any infos?
Regarding mechanical clutch support I found this
http://www.gif.net/en/developments/ccf/
I can imagine a part bolted between pedal and master cylinder with the mechanics shown inside. Would need some engineering to make it work.

Way back (over 4 yers ago) when I was looking for a solution, and after extensive trawling of t'internet, I came across that 'mod' but it was only the bracket that was available at the time! This is what I have and yes it solved the problem regarding an adaptor for the TT box, it didn't solve the clutch pressure issue.Interesting link, similar contruction to what I made to mount the Girling slave.

When I saw the 'Kit' from these guys a few weeks ago, I tried unsuccessfully to contact them regarding the 'other parts' that you mention, and I am trying again now through some business contacts I have in the US. Once I find out what the "clutch assist spring assembly" actually does, and what it costs, then I will let you know!

That looks quite interesting....Go on, you know you want to buy it! Michael

Then you can let me know if it works!
