Suppression Core cable question

Urgent Question
---------------
Driving to Germany the cable from the distributor to the coil burned through (lost all engine power on the autobahn). The engine is an AS with standard MSD ignition system.

I have replaced cable with the only one I could find around here, being one with metal inside and not a glass fiber one as the set is from AS.

I have read on the Internet that this could lead to timing problems after high revs. Anybody with a clue? P.S. I need to drive 350 miles early tomorrow morning.

I have 8000 miles on the GTR and just replaced the distributor cap and rotor since it was very dirty. Runs OK with the found cable on a test run.

Subsequent Question

Seems that my throttle cable was sticking since it is not smooth, but nics down in sort of stages. I have noticed the throttle peddle has quite a bit of lateral movement (wish I had cut the hole above it for work like some have). Could this be the cause?

Got a hold of AS and they said it would be OK with the metal core cable, but that I should change it when possible. More importantly, they wondered why the thing burnt through. I suspect it could have been the state of the distributor cap.
