Morning guys,

Thinking of next winters project, has anybody put a BMW V10 into their Ultima?
I seem to recall maybe the guy in Spain having done it (sorry man in Spain, cant remember your name).

Hi Dave, its from the M5. Not a definite yet need to look into aftermarket ecu to run it as i believe AB had to install half the bmw electronics to get it to work, so lots of research first hence NEXT winter.

Needs quite a lot of chassis rejiggery as well doesn't it? And the gearbox?

What's prompted this Dave? Just because?

Have to say Dave unless you're getting it for nothing then I would go for the Audi V10, easier to fit and get running, shorter than the BMW plus there's a transaxle that'll fit.
Speak later, might be up next week just have to confirm with Steve.

Hi Dave,
something like that?

I'm not finished yet and i suppose, that it might take much longer than one winter to get it installed and running.
It is not just a "bolt it in" job. Lots of modification to the spaceframe tubes are required to get it in.
And you should be aware of, that every little bit you will need has to be engineered first, no exhaust, no fuel system, no induction system, no engine oil system, that would fit is readily available. If you like that kind of challenge, go for it!
Cheers

Guys: I get the whole noise thing and indeed the BMW V10 would sound great in the car. But that is a whole lot of work, exspense, and weight for what will be achieved. Also I am not a BMW guy although I just bought an X5 diesel and it appears to be a great rig. That said, you probably know much better than I do, but that particular motor doesn't have the greatest reputation here in the states for power, fuel mileage or realibility. If you have ever heard an Ls motor through an 8 into one exhaust you might change your mind. My engine builder supports a unlimited offroad buggy with such a exhaust behing a well build LS 3 and that thing sounds great. kind of like a F car with balls. Lee
