Hi, just about to start ordering and am in two minds about the extra bars and how they look in the car when finished. Does anyone have pictures of either or both.

Cheers

I don't have the pictures ready to hand but would challenge your question and reasoning.
If you are proposing to build a car without the roll bars then I would strongly advise against.

If you are trying to decide between the standard roll cage and the full race then the answer is you only need the latter if you are actually going racing or plan to use the car predominantly on track

If you only have the rear roll over bar and you go under the back end of a truck, what's the first bit that hits the back of the truck?

Click below for answer.

It'll be your face as the windscreen wont put up much fight.

Trust me on this one. Have the proper Roll Cage. You may just be glad you did one day.

Thanks for the replies. The question was more in line with what cage option would be best, with regards to the two options from the factory. The car will rarely, if ever see track time.

Thanks again

I got the FIA cage because for an extra few hundred dollars, for something so "deep" in the car (first part of the build) which I could never change, I just thought why not. I don't intend on racing FIA races, but then, if I do crash or roll over, it would never hurt to have more protection.

It does make it a bit more challenging doing some stuff in the engine bay, but I don't know how much easier it would be without it there, so it's not that much loss to me (ie, I've not worked or built a car that had removable rear poles)

Personally, I think the RAC cage is overkill for the road.

Having the removable rear brace bars makes quite a few things easier to deal with.

After spending a year or more and £60K or more on building the car I'm not so sure you would be as keen to risk it all on track.

It really depends on why you bought an Ultima; either to drive it or to build/have it.

Personally, I want to build, drive and keep it essentially for use on the road but a bit of tracking, within reason of course, is not totally excluded, as you cannot really stretch the legs of an Ultima on the public roads...
