Where can I get Pennzoil PZ3 oil filters?? New car, fantastic weather, thought I'd just change the oil and filter before todays big blat, major mistake..... I've been to every xxxxxx factor in town with my screwdriver pierced filter to no avail..... (Don't you just love that expression "A what????") next time I'll get the parts first. Was tempted to get the brazing set out

Bluesatin is correct. You can always tell your local motor factor that you have a 1970s Corvette.

I have used the Fram PH30, but my current filter was supplied by the factory, so you could also ask them to send you one.

Have tried the PH30 but it's too tall. The oil cooler sandwich plate moves the filter down which then fouls the bottom chassis rail. Anybody know a shorter version??

Ta!

I tried to get a filter off a local motor factor and he cross referenced the Fram PH30 with someting else 5 1/2" tall - that won't fit. The Fram PH30 I have is 4" tall, still a tight fit to get on an off but OK - be prepared to jack up engine an inch. Doubt if you get squatter than that. I have a spare if you are desperate, but give Real Steel a call.

I put the sandwich plate spacer in my lathe and reduced it by 15mm (as well as the central spigot). Can fit a PH30 no problems now.
Thread on reducing sandwich plate spacer here

If you stick a jack under the sump and ease it up gently you should be able to get some more clearance. I had to do this to fit the K&N filter I'm curently running. It's a little taller than the Fram filter the engine came with.

At some point I'll probably convert the whole mess to run with a remote filter and put a flap check valve in the oil circuit to make the accusump work better.

If I were doing it again I'd definitely have gone for a dry sump set up. It doesn't seem to be much more expensive or complex and has much better performance...

Dave, where did you price the DS bits from? I reckoned another £2k at least for dry sump and you have to bin the AC to fit it. I like the idea though.

George, I'll confess that my dry-sump v's wet sump costs have just been wet finger in the air estimates... The addition of an accusump and fancy winged sump and the extra pipery do make the wet sump cost a bit more. According to the American Speed website the price hike over wet sump is just $1k for the 377ci screamer that GMan has, which offsets quite well against the £500ish for an Accusump.

The dry sump setup that AS supply replaces the low mount alternator. I have seen kits to mount the pumps on either the lower LH or RH side. Of course you need to find room for the alternator but that should just go in the stock location which is in the top RHS of the engine. Ultimasimon has pictures on his website I think.

We introduced 10mm taller engine mounts in January 2003 so this tight clearance only affects pre-2003 chassis's.

This really solves the problem! Of course it makes it harder to justify spending the extra money on a dry sump system and remote filter...which look flash.

Sorted it

Don't believe the equiv's list cause they ain't all the same

An equivalent I was given to the Fram PH30 was about 40mm longer than the original. As an engineer my idea of equivalent means the same, will do the same job in the same space, looks like the original. Strange old world

Thanks for all you help though
