Build Insurance
Discussion
Hi All,
Just a quick introduction... I've been a lurker on Pistonheads for it seems like years, during my TVR owning days. However I'm now planning the move on up to an Ultima. Fancy a GTR, at around 500bhp. My wife says it'll be yellow... we'll see.
Went to visit the factory, and for one of Ted's demo drives last weekend. That was an eye opener, especially in the wet!
I've got one outstanding question in the planning phase.... what do people do for insurance during the build? Do you increase your household contents...? Or is there specialist insurance for the build phase?
cheers,
Phil

hi phill, i have insurance with MSM for my build. i asked for cover upto £15000 initially and this has worked out at £115 for the year. While gathering information for my build i spoke to my contents insurance company and was told that the tools in my garage would be covered by them but any car parts are not covered ...... as apparentaly you cannot use your car in the house. i would argue that it would be dependant on the size of your house... dont you think?

Thanks for the info.
I contacted MSM and was quoted £183 for £30k of cover for the build... worst case scenario assuming I can't control myself and order the lot in one go! Figured it's better to find out the worst and then lower it to a more realistic figure at least until I get further along. Either way I was pleasantly surprised.
Was also pleasantly surprised with the ball park figure they came up with for on the road cover. I think that was the last of my wife's objections toppled, so now I'm clear to put the deposit down. I think the next few months wait may go rather slowly!
