Annoying Tapping/rattle
Discussion
I have an annoying tapping/metal-on-metal rattle from the front end of the car - possibly under the dash.
I have eliminated the clip, front suspension, battery, and even been under the dash trying to find something tapping but to no avail.
Anybody had a similar problem before I get my wife to drive with me with my head under the dash and my legs out of the door!!!!!

Tapping not speed related.
All my own teeth, so not the dentures (cheeky bugger!
).
You can be sure there will be no video of me under the dash and the last time I looked both legs were complete albeit a bit hairy unlike you Can-Am drivers!!!!

Do check for Mice holding a bucket and spoon hiding in your fuse box area - dead giveaway!! they have been known to have a wicked sense of humour! All my own teeth, so not the dentures (cheeky bugger!

Took a mate with me to Silverstone on Sunday and he reckons the noise is coming from just behind his seat/head, so I will check there next.
It was his first ride in an Ultima. He went quiet every time I applied a bit of throttle and then started complaining that his view went out of focus too! Turns out his head was being flung back so he was looking out of the reading part of his vari-focal glasses!!!!!
Don't you just love getting old.

Had something similar..... turned out to be the rear clip centre catch rattling even though closed. Quick adjustment and a small foam pad under the catch and no more rattling !
..... worth a check.

I have identified the centre catch as a possible problem so will look more carefully now. ..... worth a check.

Thanks Stu.
How about a pedal, or something related to the heater (like one of the mounting panels, tubes, or even the temperature sensor) rattling around? We have also had stones get under the paneling at the front through the rad mount holes. It could also be anything (fuse, rivet, stone, spanner etc) that has got into the pod through the gaps that are behind the alloy panels in the wheel arches.
Well I have tried all sorts of things but it's still tapping/rattling. Each time I think I've found it and sorted it, it's still there when I test the car.
It is in stereo now and I think it is under the dash/in the front of the side pods.
Going to try to find the culprit with my Go Pro camera.
It is driving me mad. The chap twitching nervously at Stoneleigh will be me at this rate.

By George, I think I have cracked it.
My dampers seemed to be interfering with the chassis mount (my modified one) so that slight up and down movements caused a tapping.
It only needs a couple of mm clearance so out came the grinder and hey-presto no tapping.
My sanity has returned.............. briefly (see sods law thread).
