Over the weekend I had the young girl transported to my friendly MOT garage for a spot of checks before IVA a few weeks away...

After wrestling with the lights, now set up, we turned our attention to checking suspension bolts tightness (don't want anything falling off!) repositioning various engine compartment brackets and testing the brakes.

I do appear to have a problem with the front brakes differential but only on lock-up (12-18%) otherwise 2%, so I will be investigating that...

The main irritation is that I seem to have acquired some annoying mice in the engine compartment... well.. OK a squeaking belt!
Considering all is new, what can I do about it - it drives me potty!

I've also had mice in my engine compartment (not in the Ultima just yet) and they where not in search of some cheese! Most of the time it has been because of the fan belt being either old, worn or not tighten up enough. It can be also be a worn bearing in the alternator... Try pouring a bit of water on the belt when the engine is turning at idle. 99% the noise will disappear if it's belt related. You can always place a mouse trap in the engine bay and see if you catch the culprit overnight biggrin

Coincidentally, last week I had a squeak in the engine compartment. Turned out to be the alternator which came loose and got damaged and ruined the belt :-( So better run a check

If you find it is a squeaking belt then it is likely that one of your pulleys is running slightly out of line. You need to get it corrected as you will never get rid of the squeak unless you do.

More than likely the bearing on the idler got some water in it. Ours does this regularly

I will give this a go - thanks!

I am carless at the mo, as I have just delivered it to our friendly ford garage which is set up for race and prestige cars as well. They are doing the geometry set-up and corner-weights for me.
They asked where castor can be adjusted ?????? don't think you can with this setup?
Had a nice original GT40 in there today!

Yus - that's what I thought!

I hear good things about Jacksons (associated with Mat Jackson BTCC). They certainly have the equipment - got a hunter system for geo.. so will be interested to see how it goes!
